As usual, it’s a super busy month in Honkers for food news, with a ton of new restaurant openings, some re-openings and of course a lot of new promotions and menus. If you’re a fan of succulent Hairy Crab or indulgent white truffles, this is the month for you! There are too many delicious options to choose from… might as well start off the festive season how we mean go on!

NEW OPENINGS

unnamed-2The Butchers Club Bali
Bali you say?! That’s right, our favourite carnivores are opening up their beloved The Butchers Club Burgers in this Indonesian paradise – their first international opening! They’ve been expanding at a massive rate this year with The Butchers Club Deli, Steak Frites by The Butchers Club and even The Butchers Club Food Truck, and now they’re going global. So if you’re taking a much-needed vacay to Bali don’t forget to check them out in the buzzing area of Seminyak to get your meat-fix!

Ok, so we may have just discovered our new favourite hangout. Bringing a little spice to Wyndham Street is Rummintings, a funky little bar opened by the guys behind Fatty Crab. With a totally cool interior and an awesome playlist, this is the place to come if you want to unwind after a long day at work. The Caribbean-inspired food is perfect for grazing on over some drinks (the cocktails are strong but delicious!) and it’s a great place to start off a fun night.

Ok, so it’s not a NEW opening, but it’s had a complete refresh after renovations over the summer. Yep, our favourite Wan Chai haunt is back with a brand new look in both the bar and the restaurant area, with a modern menu to match. We love the look of the sleek interior and the botanical wall… and we can’t wait to be back in this beautiful, old building sipping a fab cocktail!

Get your noodle on at this cool new joint in Sheung Wan. A steaming bowl of this Asian comfort food is made even better by the fact that it’s MSG free… whether you’re an udon lover or pho fanatic, there’s something here for everyone. We can’t wait to try out this pan-Asian spot for an office lunch outing, and the cool interior and chilled out vibe is already attracting the crowds.

We love a good Italian meal, and the new Gradini in the very swanky The Pottinger hotel promises to deliver one! The bright yet sleek interior is ideal for a date-night meal, and the signature hearty Italian dishes will leave you feeling fully satisfied. We’re looking forward to trying dishes such as the “Grilled Mediterranean Octopus with Citrus Salad on Hand-Picked Baby Spinach Leaves” and the “Pasta with Tuscan Sausage in Spicy Tomato Sauce with Parmesan Cheese”… yum!

This super cool new resto is disguised as an old Chinese stamp shop – very speakeasy-esque – and serves up the same delicious flavours with a modern twist. Two words: Rendang Poutine. It might not be a new restaurant opening, but this new Hong Kong based company is offering up some scrumptious condiments fit for grown-ups that we just had to mention. We were lucky enough to try a range of relishes and chutneys (with some crackers and cheese of course!) including Chilli Vodka Jam and Smokey Onion Bourbon Chutney. Chutneys with a boozey kick? Yes please!

While you might not be a big fan of the moustache look (we aren’t either!), you can take advantage of the holiday to dig into Beef & Liberty’s special edition “Mo Cheese” Burger. Clever, eh? The “Mo Cheese” Burger is a hefty patty made of grass-fed Tasmanian beef, butter leaf lettuce and two thick slices of Ogleshield Cheese – all served on a sourdough bun imprinted with a black sesame moustache – the kids are sure to love it!
