Guided Meditation for Children’s Health and Wellbeing

What is meditation?

Meditation was once thought of as the thing that only spiritual gurus did but is now becoming a part of daily routine in many homes. Scientific research has shown that meditation enhances mental harmony and is a great way to reduce and cope with the stress in our lives today.

There are many different forms of meditation from reciting mantras to guided visualisation. One of the most enjoyable as well as powerful forms is guided visualisation. This can provide a simple and effective way of introducing the healing benefits of meditation to children. Children naturally possess good imagination; so guided visualisation is fun and easy.

The Journey for Kids

If your child seems emotionally withdrawn, unhappy, angry, insecure or scared then you may want to try The Journey for Kids.

The Journey for Kids’ meditation is based on The Journey by Brandon Bays and is suitable for children 5-12 years of age. An internationally acclaimed best-selling author, Brandon Bays provides a way to access emotional trauma and allowing the body to facilitate its own healing.

The idea behind The Journey is that within all of us there exists pure potential to shine and live a life of joy and happiness. However, as we go through life, some of the events that we experience may cause us to shut down emotionally and withdraw. This can occur at any age and such traumas become trapped in our cellular memory. If these traumas are not addressed later on in life, our bodies develop physical ailments. The Journey for Kids is a proven way of accessing these past traumas via a guided meditation process. The child is able to forgive and change the bad memories into positive ones. This then removes the stored emotional pain from the cellular memory of the body enabling the body to spontaneously heal itself of its own accord.

As a DNA research scientist and natural therapist, I do believe that our bodies possess an innate ability to heal itself. For example when we cut ourselves, our bodies naturally know how to heal up the wound. The same applies to emotional wounds. We just need to know how to access them and heal.

My own experience as a mother

Now, being a mother, I have used the skills that I have learnt to help my own daughter cope with the stressors of life. Whenever I can tell that she is unhappy or upset emotionally, I use guided Journey meditation to help her access what it is that she is feeling. We reveal the bad memory or event, change it into a good one, then she forgives and lets go of the traumatic event. This makes her a much happier and emotionally balanced child.

An example of this was when she had started attending a childcare facility at the age of three. She was clearly distressed and did not want to go back. Following a quick guided kids Journey process it was revealed that another child had bitten her. I was not aware of this as I wasn’t told by the workers at the childcare centre. Jasmine and I changed the bad memory into a positive one by forgiving the little boy that bit her and she was much happier going back the following week.

I am still to this day using the Journey for Kids not only with my clients’ children, but also with my own daughter if I feel the need arises and believe me, it does. I am so grateful to have this tool at my fingertips.

A Journey for Kids session can go for 40-60 minutes depending on the child and is best performed by an accredited Journey practitioner.

Guided Meditation on Love

As you read the words of the meditation to your child, relax and empty your mind so that you can reconnect with your deeper self and be fully present, inviting your children to do the same. Wherever there is a pause …and there are many … allow yourself to fully experience the words you are reading. 

Taking a nice deep breath in…
and letting it out now…
another nice deep breath in…
and letting it gently out…

Snuggle up now…and let your body relax…
as if you were snuggling up on a gentle soft cloud…

Feel this beautiful cloud like a giant teddy bear…
so loving and so safe…it loves you very much.
Feel the cloud lifting now…higher …and higher…
as it is drifting on a gentle breeze.

You are sooo safe…

And know that there are other children snuggling up on the other
soft clouds that are gently drifting by.
They too are so loved by their cloud…

And way down below you can see our beautiful mother earth…
smiling up at you…sending you her love.
She is waiting for you to be with her again tomorrow…
to play in her grass…to swim in her waters…to hug her trees…

She is always there for you…she loves you so much…
She is the magical mother for us all…
She will always support you…and embrace you…
wherever you are.

And way, way up above…father sky is loving you too.

All the twinkling stars are showering you with magical starlight…
Feel this gentle light embracing you…filling you up with its love.

…and the moon is watching over you too…
keeping you sooo safe…as she hugs you with her gentle love…

Just bask in this loving embrace from above…and below…
You are so safe and so loved.

Now feel the love that is radiating from your own shining heart…
there is so much love in your heart that you can love the entire
universe…just as it loves you…your heart is that big.

Feel this divine love that is within you…it is you…
you are this love…

And just rest my little one…as this vast…boundless love…
