Looking for some all-American grub, mama? Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has those cravings covered!

Have you tried some good ‘ol American seafood lately? If not, then definitely head over to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co and I promise it’ll be your family’s regular treat!  Situated in the picturesque Peak Galleria amongst a wonderful setting, away from the city bustle and in my quest for some delicious american food, I landed there with my hubby one afternoon…

The restaurant is housed in a huge 6,000 square foot area and built around the authentic Americana-theme based upon the 1994 hit movie “Forrest Gump” – the place is truly one of a kind. With tons of memorabilia from the movie, including reproduced script pages, costumes, shoes, photographs and storyboards, the restaurant is really different from your usual foodie finds. With its ‘pretend’ theme, your kids are sure to love their unique table ordering style and have a laugh trying on Forrest’s plastered running shoes!

Apart from the unusual look and feel, the restaurant boats a massive dining and bar area overlooking the wonderful Hong Kong skyline (the views are seriously breathtaking) – we sat in a cozy little corner overlooking the Peak Tram. The food menu is honestly every seafood eater’s paradise, and a lot of thought has been put into the presentation, like the use of newspaper to wrap the food, shaping them int paper boats. The kids are guaranteed to love the visuals (although I must say, I was pretty impressed myself).

The drinks menu was extensive, full of different smoothies, punches, margaritas and beers; I ended up choosing a rather special Louisiana Lemonade which was extremely refreshing after the long trip to the peak. My husband went for the Speckled Lemonade which was a complete thirst-quencher too. Whatever your preference, you’re sure to find a drink that you’ll love.

The entire menu is extremely fresh, their star being fish and seafood – but don’t despair if you’re not a fan of a fishy feast, they also offer a great variety of burgers, sandwiches, pastas and some ribs.

For me, I am definitely a shrimp lover so there was no looking back! For starters we ordered their Cajun Shrimp (hands-down my favourite dish of the evening) which were Shrimps sautéed in hot and spicy Cajun butter and served with garlic bread – wonderful to dip in that spicy sauce. We also ordered the Run Across America Sampler (very Forrest Gump, right?!) which cam as an assorted platter, full of different kinds of shrimps, including chilled ‘peel and eat’ shrimps, pop corn shrimps and spicy chicken strips. This one was presented in a boat!

For the mains I couldn’t resist the “Of course we have scampi” which was again shrimps with capers in lemon garlic butter, served with Linguine. The sauce was luscious and the portion size was huge, so just keep that in mind when you order! Our second main was Jambalaya – a little different as it came with blackened chicken, pork sausage, some veggies and of course some more… you guessed it! Shrimps. If you like spice in your food, this is certainly the dish for you! You can even request to make it extra spicy  if you’re feeling rather adventurous.

When it came to desserts we really didn’t have a tough time choosing. Right away we went for the “The hook, line and sinker”,  a platter of their most yummy desserts including (my favourite) bread pudding, chocolate chip sundae and biscuits topped with fresh strawberries.

Bubba Gump also offers a fab Kid’s menu, and your children would be more than happy to choose their own food. But the ‘adult food’ is also presented in such a way that your tiny tykes would definitely enjoy sharing your plate as well. The meal was delicious and we definitely will be going back with the kids – it’ll be a superb experience for them!

No restaurant review is over without the mention to the service however and we had a great experience discussing the menu options with the friendly staff. The decor of the restaurant is so quite homely and the staff warm, making it a great day at The Peak for all.

The average cost of a meal at the restaurant would be between $250-300, which would keep you pocket as well as your family happy. So overall, this really is a win-win!
