Find out how to support these make-up artists as they ride around India!

Sassy Mamas, let me tell you about three amazing fellow Hong Kong ladies who are currently on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the name of charity.

When I first met with Nina Griffee from Faceslap HK at my last charity event, she told me about her plans to travel through India on a rickshaw to raise money and awareness for charity and face paint kids in orphanages and schools along the way, l thought she was kidding!

The Adventurists website describes the Rickshaw Run as:

A 3,500km pan-Indian adventure in a 7 horsepower glorified lawnmower. The Rickshaw Run is easily the least sensible thing to do with two weeks.

No set route, no back-up, no way of knowing if you’re going to make it. The only certainty is that you will get lost, you will get stuck and you will break down. It’s just you and your mates in a wholly unsuitable vehicle, traversing the subcontinent enduring whatever the road throws at you.

Fast forward to a few months later, and Nina Griffee, Lina Miao Li and Tamera Bedford have done just that. They have started their adventure on their rickshaw which they have lovingly named “The Enchanting Parrots” and nobody is going to stop them! Yes that’s right, they are driving a three-wheel motorcycle across the entire Sub-Continent of India. They have sixteen days from their starting point in Shillong, in the far Northeast corner of India, to get to Cochin, in the far Southwest corner of the country. The distance is 3500 km. It is basically the same as driving a riding lawn mower from New York to Phoenix.

Crazy? – I think so! But what a memorable experience it will be for all of them!

WHY?!

These three brave ladies want to raise money for the Nature Conservation Foundation which addresses issues of wildlife conservation in India. They also want to see the world from a different point of view and make kids happy along the way. They are stopping in small schools and any orphanages to offer face painting for the kids and put a smile on their faces. And smile they surely will, because as you know mamas, all kids love face painting! These inspiring women also want to raise awareness to the conditions in India, about the people and poverty, in addition to issues of nature conservancy.

What can others do to help?

You can help by donating to their rickshaw run here.

They also invite you along to check out their adventure on their Facebook page, and on their website, faceslaphk.com. We certainly wish them safe travels and good luck. They are making kids happy with their enchanted paints in India as I type this.

So maybe this has inspired you to go on your own crazy adventure or just host a tea party, if that’s more your cup of tea, to raise funds and awareness for your favorite charity. Whatever it might be, we always love to hear about it! ‘Til next time, and don’t forget, YOU can make a difference!
