Going to the shops in my Activewear…

Style & BeautyPost Category - Style & BeautyStyle & Beauty - Post Category - Style For YouStyle For You

Long live, activewear!

This viral video has provided me some inspiration along with a “thoughtful” present from my husband has led to this Activewear piece.  For anyone who knows me, I’m not a gym bunny. Never have, never will be. But judging from the video I just showed you, I don’t think I need to be as it seems standard to do whatever you like in your activewear as long as you are not breaking out into a sweat!

That said I have started to pick up Pilates to shift the surplus and it seems to be working. To encourage me in my new found “athleticism” my husband came back from a New York work trip with… yep you guessed it, activewear. Now it’s probably not your first choice of present from your love, it’s far from romantic but grudgingly I admit, it is practical. I suspect that my husband (and yes, my Pilates instructor) had probably grown tired of me wearing baggy t-shirts way past their seen-by-date leggings to class. Now I am sporting Bandier and can be seen… “Going to the shops in my activewear, activewear, activewear!”

BANDIER-Activewear-SMHK-Collage

All the rage in the Big Apple, Bandier has got everything you could want from yoga leggings to track pants to tank tops and tees and good news Hong Kong… it appears that they ship worldwide. A new convert to activewear, I have found that although a tad more expensive than my previous H&M leggings, designer activewear does show off your body in the best light. My stripy Bandier leggings (officially called the Haute Legz Legging and retails at US$98) feature a high waist and flat front with no outside leg seams. The super-soft blend fabric is moisture-wicking and slimming. While the cut of their tops cleverly contour my curves in a good way.

Bandier literally have hundreds of styles and shapes so here is just a small selection…

All time favourite with yoga instructors, Lululemon has its flagship store at ifc mall but you can also buy online. Again offering a plethora of pants and tanks, Lululemon is a safe go to for get-going gear.

How I see it, activewear is pretty and practical so that style and substance are a winner every time. Another brand that meets the mark is Lorna Jane, available at Escapade Sports, who have stores at The Pulse and Causeway Bay. Finding a good sports bra is tough terrain but Lorna Jane has cracked it so that your sports bra is good enough to show off under a tank of your choice.

Why not try pink on pink with the Lorna Jane Comfort Sports Bra (HK$489) teamed with the Adina Excel Tank (HK$439) or how about colour popping peeping with the Lorna Jane Jay Sports Bra (HK$489) and Spinner Excel Tank (HK$439).

London label, Sweaty Betty is cleverly helping us change up our wardrobe without splurging on extra outfits. Its reversible range is genius. Naturally I would advise to wash between wears but this activewear range allows you to create extra looks.

Sweaty Betty’s Chandrasana Reversible Yoga Leggings in black and Salabasana Reversible 7/8 Yoga Leggings in blue/grey both retail at £75.

A gym kit that’s not going to break the bank is Cotton On’s own brand of activewear, Cotton On Body. Loved by the younger generation I think you could have your teenage daughter nabbing your work out wardrobe here. Spoilt for choice (it seems that every brand wants to encourage the tight and bright look) Cotton On Body has pants in all shapes and sizes, personally I think it would love lounging in my activewear, activewear with these Cropped Drop Studio Pants (HK$119).
