Surviving The Summer With Coconut Water – Why It’s Fab For The Whole Fam

Health & WellnessPost Category - Health & WellnessHealth & Wellness - Post Category - NutritionNutrition

We were a bit skeptical about the whole coconut water thing when it first started. Surely just another fad, a healthy bandwagon to jump on? Well, turns out we were completely wrong and are now eating our words and washing them down with a huge glug of the stuff.

Harvested from the youngest, freshest coconuts; coconut water is packed with potassium and electrolytes which, among many other things, are great for helping alleviate stress. (Perfect for mama!) It has some pretty impressive health benefits AND is the ideal drink for keeping rehydrated when plain old H2O just gets a bit boring. And if, like ours, your kids are juice addicts, then a switch to coconut water will lower their sugar intake and guarantee no preservatives, colourings, flavourings and all that stuff. Coconut water is free from all nasties and some brands also have a few fruit flavours, if that’s more your thing. If they’re not hugely keen on the flavour, then mix it up a little with their fave juices – perfect for ensuring they’re staying hydrated and not overloading on sugar. Did you know that a glass of apple juice has the same amount of sugar as 3 Krispy Kreme donuts?!

Now that the mercury is rising, coconut water has become a firm staple in our fridge – and on our family outings. Apart from the all-important hydration factor, coconut water is stacked with nutrients and safe for everyone from toddlers to pregnant ladies. It’s also a really good rehydration option after a gym session or if your family has been hit by the dreaded gastro bug that’s been sweeping the city (hope not mamas!). Oh and it’s great for your skin and settles your stomach if you’ve had a heavy night. Mama tends to get overexcited these days on the rare night out!

Check out these cool recipes from Jax Coco that will keep you chilled when temperatures soar. Healthy, yummy, family friendly – these tick all the boxes and get a huge Sassy Mama thumbs up.
