One of Hong Kong’s best new restaurants this year according to CNN, Mercedes me is now doing weekdays breakfasts. Your mornings just got that much better, mamas!

Mercedes Me

first impressions

Although hungry and here for a good feed, I had to stop and take a proper look at the small, but sleek showroom at the entrance (complete with a Mercedes F1 race car!). The spacious dining area and bar were equally impressive, with a grey and black palette for the Mercedes touch, the addition of wooden and leather seating creating a warm and cosy vibe. The little ones haven’t been forgotten about either, with high chairs available on request.

the food

First stop was the semi Breakfast Buffet ($150), filled with a variety of seasonal fresh fruits, simple colourful salads, cheeses, homemade juices and freshly brewed teas. I’m not really a pastry person, but the freshly baked French Butter Croissants ($25 each) and Almond or Chocolate Puff Pastry Rolls ($30 each) smelt heavenly; the kids will love these too, balanced out with some fruit!

After filling my plate with fruit and sipping on a perfect cappuccino, I was pleased to see I could continue my healthy breakfast vibe with the a la carte menu items created by Culinary Director Malcolm Wood and Corporate Executive Chef Edgar Sanuy, like the 62 Degree Slow Cooked Eggs with a choice of two sides sautéed spinach and avocado for me ($80, or $60 as an add-on to the buffet). The egg whites were silky and almost translucent, and the yolks more liquidy than what you get with poached eggs; a bit too runny for me, but this is in line with the cooking style and something you either like or you don’t. Next time I’ll go with the fluffy Scrambled Eggs ($90, or $60 as a buffet add-on), perhaps with a side of smoked salmon and manchego cheese?

There wasn’t an option of toast, not necessarily an issue if you’re on a gluten free/paleo diet. If you like something a little carbier at breakfast, the bite size Toasted Bikini Sandwiches with organic smoked salmon and cream cheese or sobrassada and mozzarella (both $120) will go down a treat; Kat, our Sassy Mama Editor (and my breakfast buddy!) was a big fan, and our table ordered a second round.

Prefer to start your day on a sweet note? The Plain Yogurt and Cookie Crumble ($50) looked delicious (I had a bit of food envy when I saw this, but at this point I was full!). I also liked the sound of the Greek Yoghurt with Fruit Tartar and Passion Fruit Sauce ($65)…for another morning!
