Freeze time and revive yourself with these new
wellness wonders!

Mamas, it’s time to take some “me time”. I know, I know… you’ve barely got time to go to the loo (you’re definitely not alone!) but if you can spare an hour or two for yourself, here are a few new wellness wonders that have popped up around town that are well worth considering and your time!

Wellness Wonders

The ease of freeze

I recently had my very own Frozen moment. Nope, I was not dressed as Queen Elsa or Princess Anna… I actually got frozen, for real. Cryotherapy has been all the rage in Hollywood and has finally hit Hong Kong; our city’s first and only cryotherapy centre, Polaris can be found in the heart of Causeway Bay.

My experience; standing naked in a cryo-sauna of dry ice, plummeting my body into an environment of -90 to -140 degrees Celsius did leave me singing “Let It Go” to get through the three minute chill-factor, however it was a fun experience and left my body tingling and refreshed as the blood coursed through my veins to get me warm again.

Claiming both weight loss and anti-ageing properties, cryotherapy works by exposing the skin (literally, I was only wearing ski gloves!) to cool dry nitrogen gas reaching sub-zero temperatures in order to trigger the natural responses from the body. The long list of benefits include increased collagen production, weight loss, energy levels and metabolism boost, strengthened immune system, improved blood circulation, and inflammation reduction. I was told that I could lose up to 800 calories in one session, which is extremely encouraging and probably cancelled out the tea and scone I had beforehand! I would have to say though, don’t expect miracle results from just one session. I certainly had the feel good factor but I think it is a case of signing up for regular freezes to see and feel major benefits.

In addition to the cyro-chamber, as I call it; Polaris launches two other cryotherapy treatments: localised cryotherapy and cryo facials. I’ve been told by the cryo-experts that the localised sessions are there to help with pain relief from a sports injury and even pregnant women may use localised therapy to ease those swollen ankles without exposing your whole body to the coldest place on earth.

Since I was there, I decided to give the cryo-facial a go. It was an 11 minute treatment that again uses cool dry nitrogen gas to encourage cell rejuvenation and boost collagen levels to help stop time in its tracks. The dry ice targets problem areas such as the chin line to help chisel your features.

With celebrities such as Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston reported to use Cryotherapy as part of their eternal health and beauty regime… who can argue with the results?!

Prices for a single session are $900. Membership packages are available which include favourable rates.

Get your ommm on

You know you’re in good hands when the leaders in aromatherapy, Aromatherapy Associates teams up with Flex Studio to take you on a sensory, holistic workout for both body and mind. Jazzing up its popular Recharge & Restore, Prana and Chokra flow yoga classes, Flex Studio instructors will introduce Aromatherapy Associates’ uniquely blended essential oils into the class to enhance your usual yoga practice.

Flex’s favourite scent is Aromatherapy Associates’ De-Stress essential oil. Packed with the powerful properties of Frankincense, you apply the oil to your hands, or on a tissue that remains on your mat, during practice to give your workout a natural boost. Frankincense is renowned for expanding the diaphragm thereby enabling deeper breathing and a more balanced enhanced yoga experience.

Sign up to classes on Tuesday at 12:45pm and Thursday at 7pm in One Island South or Friday at 12:30pm in Central to feel extra rejuvenated after practice.

Why not keep the good vibes going by picking up the De-Stress Bath & Shower Oil at Flex Studio so that you can continue to keep calm between classes. All you need to do is add a few drops to your bath or apply while in the shower to breathe in the same powerful properties that help to keep stress levels down. Something I know all of us mamas need from time to time.

Wellness Wonders

The IV league of wellness

Next up, time to be revived. If you, like me, are suffering from sleep deprivation from a teething toddler then this could be the answer to feeling normal again. REVIV opened its doors on Duddell Street in June and promises to give you a much needed energy boost in minutes.

Founded by four A&E doctors with a whopping 40 years’ experience in treating dehydration and restoring energy levels, REVIV claims to provide a system of safe and effective intravenous hydration therapies and booster shots that are available in wellness centres the world over and now in Hong Kong.

Apparently just 2% dehydration can result in numerous detrimental effects; namely stress, loss of productivity, general discomfort and even damaged skin and organs.

Hooking up to an IV is, according to REVIV, the most efficient way to rehydrate and revitalise the body with key vitamins as they are administered straight into the blood stream. REVIV helps to alleviate tiredness, increase alertness, boost the immune system and even relieve depression as well as provide visible and noticeable results in skin, hair and nails. Yes, please!

Prices for IV Hydration treatments start from $1,798.
