Parties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play - Post Category - IndoorIndoor

Hi mamas… I’m back! July was a little slow in the art scene and we were sorely lacking in new releases, but happily August is packed with shows for kids of all ages!

For kids who love dance

mas

Hong Kong Dance Company is known around town for creating beautiful fusion dance pieces that bring modern and traditional Chinese dance together. Their stage designs and choreography are typically something to marvel at, and always enthrall young viewers. This month they’re bringing Masquerade to the stage. Based on a Chinese folk tale about a man who is ostracised by a scar on his face, it’s a great story about love and overcoming disabilities that’s often compared to Phantom of the Opera.

For kids who love to be bad!

detention-4

Tang Shui Wing’s Detention is back for its fourth run on the Hong Kong stage. Detention is a great show for teens that attend local school, as it’s a parody on the local Hong Kong school experience but if your kid has ever spent time in detention at any school they’ll probably get a kick out of it! It’s a physical theatre piece that anyone can enjoy, blending traditional Chinese dance with breakdancing, physical comedy, kung fu, bodybuilding, music and vaudevillian slapstick.

MJ

Cirque du Soleil is heading back to Hong Kong this month, and this time they’re bringing their Michael Jackson tribute show – The Immortal – to Asia. Everyone loves the late, great MJ and will go crazy for this show! Highlighting all of Michael’s best numbers with the trademark Cirque flair that combines circus with dance, song, fabulous costumes and theatrical pizazz. It’s a little bit of a trek out to the Asia World Expo but, but it’s so worth it.

For mama’s night off with the girls!

TEase

You may have seen that The Crazy Horse is coming to Hong Kong next month, but ticket prices are ridiculously high at almost $1,000 per seat! As much as we love the Crazy Horse, we know that raising kids in Hong Kong can be a pricey venture, so if mama needs a night away from the chaos without breaking the bank, we can recommend Hong Kong’s own Burlesque troupe, Vixens Burlesque. Founded in 2009, they celebrate women of all shapes and sizes with the motto, “It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being fabulous!” (How Sassy is that?!) Their show is titled A Midsummer Night’s Tease and is a bargain at only $200, including a drink. Of course, this is an 18+ show due to adult content, language and partial nudity, so one for mama’s night out! (We’ve also heard a rumor that the Boylesquers are back for you ladies that are fans of Magic Mike… !)
