It’s that time of the year again! Time to dust off your fancy dress and stock up on sweet treats… Halloween is on its way and it promises to be as sugar-filled as ever! From kiddo-approved fun for the whole family, to scary gatherings and devilish drinks for mamas and papas only, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite Halloween haunts to get the frightening festivities started…

Family Events: Fang-tastic fun

Epic fun at EpicLand
Experience a day of kid-friendly haunting at the Epic Land playground during their Halloween Party. Get dressed up and get ready for some spooky fun at the mega indoor playroom. There is sure to be a trick or a treat to suit everyone in the family.

It’s Spooktacular at Spring Learning
Family friendly fun is available at Spring! Expect snacks, drinks and kiddo-approved entertainment. From making a Halloween GIF, arts and crafts like making a glowing jar, to even making a pumpkin choco-cup to feast on (suitable for all kids up to the age of 6). There is also sensory play and a crawling track for babies and toddlers to explore.

Fairy-tale foodie frights at The Butchers Club Long Lunch
Head on over to the Halloween Southside Market for the annual long lunch. The Grimm-style fairy tale spectacular includes a pumpkin carving competition, face painting and prizes for the best costumes. For mamas and papas, the food will seal the deal with The Butchers Club gourmet sausages, a hog roast, a vegetarian burger from Beyond Meat, chicken tikka on mini naans and the best dry-aged steak sandwiches.

Attack of the Villains at Disneyland
Events to look out for during the day are Mickey’s Halloween Time Street Parade, Disney’s Trick or Treat, and the Maze of Madness. The scarier villains come out when the sun goes down so this might be a good time to send the little ones to bed.

When: Until October 31, 2017.
Where: Hong Kong Disneyland, Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

Ocean Park Fun
For some seriously scary friendly fun, Ocean Park has day and night time activities. For a less terrifying take, you can go on sweet hunts along Hong Kong’s longest trick-or-treat trail or head to the Halloween party in Whiskers Harbour. For mamas and papas, the real terrors come out at night. Whether you want to see some ghosts during a scaremonie or just have your fill or candy, you’re in for a treat!

Howl-O-Ween Sponsored Dog Walk
Kirsten’s Zoo’s annual Howl-O-Ween dog walk is back! Aiming to raise $250,000 for rescued animals, this is an event worth getting involved in. Set out with the whole clan and walk with your family and your four-legged friends from Wan Chai Gap Park to Aberdeen Country Park whilst raising funds! The walk is approximately 3.5km and there’ll be a nice BBQ to end the day. Don’t forget to wear your costume – there’s even a prize for the best dressed pooch!

HK International School Pumpkin Patch Festival
Hong Kong International School’s Pumpkin Festival is here again. Come pick a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch, enjoy some of the carnival games, take part in a donut eating competition or bounce on the bouncy castle. Admission is free and complimentary bus transportation makes it easily accessible.

Brunch Boo-nanza at Lily and Bloom
This restaurant is transforming the American-style brunch into an eerie affair for the whole family on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October 2017. There will be boo-ze for the adults and cupcake decorating and a sweet hunt for the kids. For kids aged 12-17, the regular Halloween brunch without free-flow drinks is priced at $320, and $495 for adults, which includes the free-flow option.

You can also show up #fashionablydead at Lily and Bloom for a Day of the Dead themed celebration with dancers and live entertainment. Advance tickets are $350 and on the door tickets are $450.

Ghostly Gatherings for Mamas and Papas

Eerie Exploring at Duddell’s
Who doesn’t love the allure of a masked ball. Hosted by Duddell’s, this event promises to be a night of discovery, adventure, and entertainment. So, drop the kids of at the babysitter and get ready for a night of uncovering obscurities in your best explorer outfit on Saturday 28th October (from 10pm till late). General Admission is $250, and tickets at the door are $300.

Terrifying Tropics at Potato Head
If you’re in the mood for something tropical with a dark edge, head on over to Potato Head on Friday 27th October (from 9pm till late) for an evening of ‘Serie Noir’ synth-adelic dancing. Expect everything from jungle drums to the savage sounds of dark wave music combined with zombified cocktails. It’s sure to be a frightening feast! Attend a Zombie Prom at Fang Fang

Boo-zy delights and Drink Specials for Halloween

Werewolves running riot at Commissary
If you’re not afraid of some boo-ze head over to Commissary for their Halloween cocktail on Tuesday 31st October. Named ‘An American Werewolf in Hong Kong”, the drink is a smoky blend of Montelobos Mezcal, Aperol and aptly blood orange ($80, from 4:30pm – 8:30pm, $100 after dark). Pair it with a few tacos and you’re ready for a laid back Tuesday evening. You deserve it.

Ham and Scary and Ham & Sherry
Ham & Sherry’s Back Bar is offering drop dead drinks with quirky names like The Gravedigger, Corpse Reviver, or Pick Your Poison (all for $80) on Tuesday 31st October, from 6pm ’til late. There will also be some spooky snacks, like ‘Blood’ Croquettes, Chopped Heart Tartare, and Bloody Mary Syringes all prepared by Executive Chef Aaron Gillespie. The best bit? Nibbles are on the house! Take your last journey at The Optimist
Rouse your senses with a drink that packs a punch. The Last Journey ($100) is a combination of black spiced rum balanced by sweet pomegranate liqueur, cherry brandy, peach puree, and a crackle of caramel.  For some Halloween magic, it’s topped with a levitating cotton-candy coated strawberry.
