International Montessori School Open Day

Learn how dual-language Montessori education and executive functions can improve your child’s concentration, self-discipline and positive social behaviour.

What do the founders of Amazon (Jeff Bezos), Google (Sergey Brin and Larry Page) and Wikipedia (Jimmy Wales) have in common? Apart from bringing some of the most successful websites to the world, they also all went to a Montessori school.

As a mama, you’ll, of course, want the best for the newest member of your tribe, so it’s never too early to set them on the right path with education. Since 2002, the International Montessori School (IMS) has supported students from toddler to elementary years, as the only accredited elementary Montessori school in all greater China, providing an authentic Montessori dual-language curriculum. Together with multiple preschool campuses on Hong Kong Island, catering to a range of different ages, IMS is the ideal choice in Hong Kong’s international community.

Striving to make a difference in your child’s creativity and independence through supporting and stimulating students on every level, IMS specialises in the acclaimed Montessori approach, giving children what they need when they need it according to what their brain is doing.

A key area of focus in the Montessori method is the basis of executive functions; a term used to highlight the core skills that your little ones need to develop into the most proficient and well-rounded adults. Integral to your child’s developmental journey, these functions include the ability to concentrate, the love of work, self-discipline and positive social behaviour.

The importance of the brain’s executive functions (self-regulation) has become a hot topic as recent longitudinal research turned developmental psychology on its head. It’s thought that strong executive functions at the age of 4 are a more important predictor of positive life outcomes than other factors such as intelligence, parent income and education. The good news? Executive function can be developed and enhanced through parenting choices and the authentic, bilingual, Montessori environment of IMS.

With so much to discover about the Montessori approach and how it can impact not only your children but the whole family, head over to the IMS open day on Saturday, 19 January, 9am to 12pm. Held at the IMS Stanley campus, you’ll find a hands-on opportunity to experience the IMS dual-language programme, combining an authentic Montessori environment with a strong Chinese curriculum. Take the opportunity to chat with IMS teachers and students, while little ones can play, have fun with art activities or get active in the IMS sports corner.
