Running out of things to do while restrictions are in place? If you and the family are cooped up indoors, you might need a little inspiration to slide off the couch and get your blood pumping. If kids (and parents!) are ready to start climbing the walls, let off some steam by doing exercise at home to help to lift the mood and get your endorphins going.
Not sure where to start? There are some great online fitness classes, home workouts and fitness influencers, both in Hong Kong and further afield ready to help you out! We asked around the Sassy Mama office for team favourites, so here are a few picks to get you started (all of which can be adapted to include little ones). Happy jumping jacks!
Online Fitness Classes And Workouts In Hong Kong
Casita — Online music and movement classes for young kids
Casita has moved its popular Zumbini classes (an age-specific music program from the team behind Zumba) online in the form of “Zoombini”. Currently running from Monday, 7 to Monday, 21 February 2022 ($100), this is a great option for little kids aged under 4 to get their wiggles out.
Aqua Terra Performance – Free online prenatal and postnatal workouts
If you’re looking for guidance on exercising safely throughout your pregnancy and beyond while at home, Esther at Aqua Terra Performance is here to help. Though you might not be able to go out to a class, this boutique studio (based in Stanley for the Southside mamas) is offering two free online fitness classes to download. The first, a 30-minute workout for mamas-to-be and the second a 30-minute full-body workout for busy mamas. You shouldn’t need any specific equipment and both are suitable for any fitness level, as each includes modifications to make exercises more or less intense.
SELF Fitness – Online Fitness Classes and On Demand online workouts
Back in 2020 SELF Fitness had a full range of online fitness classes via Zoom due to the restrictions and studio closures. At the moment you can opt for the On Demand online workouts, but it’s looking likely that it will start the full online schedule again as restrictions continue. Last year you could choose pay-as-you go options as well as booking a block of classes. If you have any pre-existing conditions or injuries, make sure to email at least 24 hours before to let the team know. Watch this space.
Anhao Wellness – Online fitness videos via Instagram
Anhao Wellness (specialists in Mat Pilates, Mat CORE Pilates and the Hatha Yoga) has frozen all paid-packages to resume once the studios will reopen. In the meantime, follow its Instagram account and look out for two new online fitness videos that’ll be posted every two days. Former That Mama Estelle and the Anhao Teachers hope you can try each workout 5 to 10 times each day to give you a good home workout of around 30-50 minutes.
RugbyTots – Private kids fitness classes available to book
This well-known Hong Kong kids’ class provider knows a thing or two about getting little ones moving and having fun. Luckily, you can still book private in-person classes (yay!). If you’re in a pinch and need something to entertain the kids at home, keep an eye on the Facebook page for news of any online sessions or YouTube channel for previous online fitness classes.
Pure Yoga – Free online yoga workouts for kids and parents
While you’re social distancing, you might like to practice yoga with the kids. Pure Yoga is offering a whole host of videos on its online platform Purecast Yoga Livestream (purecast360). You don’t need to be a Pure Yoga member to access any of these and there are plenty of sessions aimed specifically at kids. It’s the perfect way to keep the family fit, while staying safely at home.
Defin8 Fitness – Free online workout routines, live stream classes via Zoom tips and more
Hong Kong-based fitness guru and mama, Trixie Velez, launched Defin8 Fitness (along with her partner Leo) due to her passion to teach and enhance people’s lifestyles. Due to the current situation, she is offering live stream classes via Zoom. Also check out the YouTube videos so you can keep trim from the comfort of your living room. One for the parents (although you can get the kids involved in some of the exercises as well), all you need is a mat, a towel and some water to take part in free workout routines, tips and more (such as the 10 minute Ab workout for 20 Days to get 6-Pack Abs) – yes, please!
Calibrate Studio – Instagram Live fitness sessions and daily exercises
Offering pre and postnatal training, HIIT, mobility, strength and movement classes, this studio also provides personal training, workshops, team building and class activities to promote sustainable lifestyles. Keep a look out on the Instagram page for IG live fitness sessions and daily exercises to keep you going.
Flex – Online Pilates skype sessions
This Hong Kong regular offers private Pilates Skype sessions to get you moving at home. You can do a drop-in class ($150) or go all out for a private session ($790), with a range of other options and prices in-between. There’s no excuse as workouts are also available on WhatsApp Video, FaceTime and Google Hangouts. Call the studio or contact your Flex instructor directly to book.

Hong Kong Fitness Influencers To Follow
This city also has its fair share of great fitness influencers that you need to know about. One such influencer and That Mama Ziggy, of Zig FitMama, is a personal trainer who specialises in women’s wellness and pre- and postnatal fitness. A certified pre- and postnatal coach, lookout for free virtual workouts and follow her tips and exercises via Instagram.
Another pre- and postnatal fitness coach to have on your radar is Kristen Handford. This mum of one also offers online coaching for when the mama groups are not available. Check out her Instagram page for exercise tips and fitness inspiration or try this 60- minute pre- and postnatal stretch and sweat workout.
Beth Wright works remotely as a lifestyle coach, one-on-one with individual clients. She provides custom home workouts, lifestyle and nutrition plans. On Instagram, she posts tips and recommendations for living a healthier and more balanced life, along with nutrition ideas and transformation successes. In the coming weeks, she will be posting fitness videos on her IG feed.

Joe Wicks – The Body Coach kids online workouts
One for the kids, Joe Wicks (aka The Body Coach) is an online fitness coach who single-handedly took it upon himself to get home-bound school kids everywhere up and at ’em when COVID-19 first hit. You don’t need a lot of room for PE With Joe and the 30-minute classes are designed for youngsters to have fun with basic exercises. Taught from his London home via YouTube, over one million families have live-streamed the previously live morning routines. There are also over 250 other workouts on his channel to choose from (that don’t require any equipment).

Fitness Blender – Fun kids fitness classes online
Suitable for ages three and up, these 25-minute fun fitness classes are great for the whole family. Using three different game techniques, you’ll burn extra energy, increase endurance, balance, strength and even improve bone density! It also has a huge range of free online workouts for mums and dads (HIIT, Yoga, low impact, strength training and more), detailing the difficulty rating, how many calories you’ll burn and what equipment is needed. There are more than 400 exercises that require no equipment at all.

Cosmic Kids – Kids online yoga sessions
Jaime’s yoga lessons have been popular with kids, parents and teachers alike since she started in 2012. She knows just how to get the young ones doing downward dogs, child poses and Surya Namaskars by weaving a story around them. You can access the YouTube channel with plenty of videos (for free!) or sign up for the Cosmic Kids App (free trial to start then paid options) to have uninterrupted commercial-free viewing.

Centr – Tone that dad bod like Thor
If the man of the house wants to shake his dad bod and become a little more chiselled like, say, Thor, why not take a class from the man himself? That’s right! Chris Hemsworth is offering a four-week free trial on his fitness app, Centr. Mamas can get in on the action as well, of course, with unrestricted access to healthy recipes, training exercises, sleep visualisations and meditations. You do need to add your credit card details when signing up, but you can opt out at any time (without being charged) before the trial period is up by switching off the “auto-renew”.
Peloton – Cardio, yoga or strength training online
This is another app that’s definitely worth mentioning. The Peloton team know the struggle is real at the moment so have extended its free trial to two months. Whatever your jam, be it cycling (if you have a fitness bike at home, of course), cardio, yoga or strength training, you’ll find something to keep you going. Simply unsubscribe before the end of the trial if you don’t want to continue paying (you’ll get a reminder before the first payment is taken).
More International Online Fitness Classes, Workouts And Influencers To Follow
Daddy or Mommy & Toddler Workout is a 20-minute workout that’ll unquestionably get your tots involved. It’s not so much of a workout for them but it’ll definitely be a lot of fun, as they become your weights! Fast forward to around 3-minutes in for the routine to start.
Shona Vertue is great for daily mobility and controlled articular rotations (CARS). There’s a paid programme if you so wish, but also free workouts via YouTube and Instagram. Her vibe is about movement and exercise for long term health and is doable in a small space.
Two top mama fitness influencers to follow are Kayla Itsines, a personal trainer and creator of the Bikini Body Guides who had a gorgeous baby girl in April 2019 (check out her Instagram page for inspiration), and Emily Skye. This fitness mama (whose Insta following is 2.5 million devotees strong!) is well-known for her Emily Skye Fit Programme and her fitness journey following the birth of her two gorgeous tots.
