HK Treasure hunts for the whole family

We love a good puzzle, and what better puzzle is there than a scavenger hunt or escape room? Scavenger hunts get you moving and get the old noggin working and promise to be a mega fun-filled birthday party alternative to the usual swimming or pizza party. Whatever your style, laid back and logical, or all or nothing glory hunters, there’s something out there for you and your fam. You could have a chill day out hiking, trying to spot elusive geocaches, or you could be racing across the heart of the city as the timer counts down. Or, if you prefer to keep everyone in one spot indoors (especially in the summer months!), then put your combined brain power together as you fight for freedom with only your wits in a Hong Kong escape room!

Scavenger Hunts

Hall of Games
Get to know Hong Kong like never before with Hall of Games! Hall of Games specialises in scavenger hunts and amazing races with fun storylines and unique challenges that are designed for all ages. The private scavenger hunts are best suited for smaller groups and younger kids while the races are more challenging and require a large number of people to participate. Kids who are twelve years and older can play the games independently while kids under twelve will need an adult chaperone to help them along with the navigation.

All you need is your smartphone, a GPS signal, and a group of your fastest family and friends. Each adventure takes around two hours with locations in Central, Sheung Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Lan Kwai Fong, Mong Kok, Repulse Bay and Tai Hang. For more information, check out the list of scavenger hunt challenges here and the amazing race challenges here.

How about stepping it up a notch, and have your team compete against all of Hong Kong. Geocaching
Geocaching, you may have heard of this weird word before, but what is it exactly? Geocaching started in 2000 in the USA and is now the world’s largest treasure hunt. It combines hiking and real outdoor adventure on the search for items and treasures left by other fellow geocachers. Geocaching has become a worldwide phenomenon, with an estimated 1,000 participants in the 852 and almost 3,000 caches up for grabs! All you need to join in is a smartphone with GPS signal and the geocaching app. With the app you can see where the geocaches are located and can then use the app and map to find the hidden treasures. The items found can be literally anything, though usually nothing lavish, so don’t set your hopes too high! Once you find the item(s), you record your name in the log that is provided within the geocache box, and then you can leave your own items in the same hiding spot and report back to the app. What’s inside the caches isn’t really important, it’s the adventure of finding it!

Bustling City Tours
If you are looking for a fun scavenger hunt that will give your family a real feel of Hong Kong culture, then you should check out Bustling City Tours. The hunts take place on the first Saturday of every month from Tsim Sha Tsui and the adventure will take about four hours. There is a prize at the end for the winners and souvenirs for everyone (it’s the taking part that count, right?). The guide, Wouter, can host the hunt in Dutch, English or German. These scavenger hunts are best suited for older kids but can be adapted for younger kids or whatever your groups needs are (including wheelchair and disability access). The price is $100 per person as well as $30 to $50 that will be spent during the hunt itself. Don’t forget to bring your smartphone and an octopus card!
