Christmas is all about spending time with your family, but it’s always nice to get out of the house and see what the 852’s up to for the holidays! The Christmas lights are out, Pacific Place is drowning in décor and it’s impossible to go anywhere and not hear a carol; we’ve found a few jolly events we think you and your family might be interested in this year. (Who knows, you might even meet the big red man himself!)

Light Up A Life
The “Light Up A Life” Christmas Concert features traditional festive music and a Tree Lighting Ceremony. Hear fun, classic Christmas songs by the Hong Kong Welsh Male voice choir and the Island School Orchestra and Choir. All proceeds go towards terminally ill patients and their families. Any donation is appreciated, no matter how small, and you and your family can enjoy beautiful music while giving back to the community. Book your tickets at the St. John’s Cathedral Bookstore now!

Venice

Winter in Venice
Want to take a mini holiday break? Pop on over to Macau to check out this winter carnival featuring a 3-D light display to light up your night and “Seasons of Wonder” projected daily through the beginning of January. Let your kiddos run around the outdoor winter fairyland, play in the snow and twirl under the snow flakes. Although artificial, the detail is truly amazing. Ice-skate, rock-around the Christmas tree and enjoy winter food delicacies with live entertainment in the background. Admission is FREE! Now you have no excuse mama, round up the kids and get ready to delve into the spirit of Christmas!

Carols by Candlelight
To experience the music of Christmas firsthand, head to Matilda International Hospital. There’ll be six Christmas choirs, a real-life Santa, and “angels” welcoming in the holiday season. Listen to the beautiful carols as you enjoy Christmas cuisine, peruse for fun holiday goodies and enjoy games and crafts with the kids! Spend your evening at this lovely event and help raise money for disabled children who aren’t as fortunate.

WinterFest
Take an evening out with the family to enjoy all the excitement at WinterFest! Shop around, eat festive food and stare in awe at the beautiful giant Christmas tree! The twinkling lights surrounding the tree are pretty impressive as well. Make holiday memories and spread the joy!

Sip mulled wine and nom on mince pies while you enjoy the Cecilian Singers a capella group and accompanying performances. As one of the oldest choirs in Hong Kong, the singers have a wide repertoire and never disappoint! All profits from the concert go towards a charity of the choir’s choice.

Hong Kong’s largest indoor lighting spectacle is at Ocean Park! If your kids have never been to the park (who’re we kidding?), now is the time to take them. Run around the park and see Christmas characters and Santa in a candy cottage house. A 70-foot Christmas tree surrounded by delicious delights and candy canes outlining the park are sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Make sure you stay for a meal; Ocean Park’s Christmas menus cannot be missed. Indulge in the Doraemon Christmas Set Menu at Neptune’s Restaurant, which includes a Christmas décor appetiser to start, and a hot melting chocolate pudding with a Doraemon cookie and an edible Christmas snowman to end the holiday-heavy meal.

Discoveryland’s Winter Wonderland
Take your kids to see magical decorations at Discoveryland! Santa’s elves will lead you through fun Christmas activities on the way to meet Santa. The little ones will receive a gift and photo with Santa along with other fun goodies! Get ready for an action packed holiday, mama, and don’t forget your camera!

Kassia Women’s Choir
The Kassia Women’s Choir is focusing on Christmas movies this December, performing songs from favourites such as The Muppets, The Polar Express, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street. The little ones will love being able to recognise the tunes; just be warned, you may be asked to download the movies the next day!

A Cambridge Christmas 
The musical life at Cambridge is coming to Hong Kong through the very talented College of Gonville and Caius Choir. The choir is world renowned for its enthusiastic and dynamic performances. The carol services are said to be “hauntingly beautiful” and truly magical during the holiday season. This is the concert to attend for an evening of beautiful music to get you in the holiday spirit!

Let your kids indulge in the classic story of the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve! The Phantom of the Opera
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece returns to the stage in Hong Kong! A musical genius haunts the Paris opera house and falls in love with a young soprano, Christine. Drama, jealousy and madness ensue… expect an amazing show with great music and visuals to match!

The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong presents “The Snowman & The Bear”! The two animated films will be played on a big screen while the orchestra plays the magical music in the background. Phil Whelan and Tania Martin will narrate the heartwarming story about a snowman coming to life and “The Bear” where a little girl wakes up to a polar bear in her bedroom! The kid-friendly show is hosted in English and lasts for 80 minutes.

Starry Christmas at Harbour City
Take your kiddies to see the Christmas train station with bright colors of red, white, and gold at Harbour City. Take them inside the 30-metre long train to look at the stars inside and snap pictures and then pick up some cotton candy inside Ocean Terminal! Shuan the Sheep will be displayed in the big barn in the Gateway Arcade of Harbour City and the Kid Zone will have 30 figurines of Shaun dress up in different colours! Get festive decorations, photo ops and plenty of Christmas fun all in one go.

Maritime Square Showcase Frozen Ice Castle
If you’ve never had a reason to rendezvous in an MTR mall before, here’s one for you! Maritime Square, a 4-story mall located in Tsing Yi Station, has transformed into a Frozen winter wonderland, bringing your kid’s favourite movie of the year to life!
