Statement

Recommended by Jess Mizzi (Editor, Sassy Mama Hong Kong)
“I love the setting in Tai Kwun, the interiors and the great food. My husband and I went when it first opened and had a great experience. It’s become our go-to for anniversaries and date nights. There have been nice touches like a complimentary dessert on opening (because the chef wanted us to try it out) and welcome champagne on our anniversary.”

Cuisine: Modern British
Tips: Save room for the cheese board!

Hutong

Recommended by Anita Balagopalan (Editor, Sassy Mama Hong Kong)
“My husband and I rarely agree about anything, but this place gets our joint stamp of approval. We love taking our time getting there on the Star Ferry, getting a drink at aqua first and soaking in the view while enjoying a relaxed night out. The food is excellent too, as is the service.”

Cuisine: Chinese
Tips: Call ahead and book a table that’s close to the window to get the best view of the harbour. This is not only a good date night spot, but it’s also a great place to take guests from out of town!
Price-range: Mid-range to high

favourite date night spots eat drink 11 westside

11 Westside

Recommended by Maura Thompson (Co-Founder, Sassy Media Group)
“I live in Pok Fu Lam and I can be a homebody at times, so I love it when a date night is close to home. But the real reason I’m a fan is that I love the tableside guacamole (the tacos and margaritas are excellent too), the music they play (hip hop) and the general vibe of the restaurant.”

Cuisine: Mexican
Tips: It can be hard to find. Find Eric Kayser on Davis Street in Kennedy Town and go down the little alleyway to the side of it. It’s a little way down, up a small flight of stairs!
Post-dinner, head to Winston’s for an espresso martini (if you’re sure that the kids won’t have you up at the crack of dawn!).
Price range: Mid-range

11 Westside, 1/F, The Hudson, 11 Davis Street, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong, WhatsApp: 9300 8068 (message only), www.11westside.com

favourite date night spots eat drink chino

Chino

Recommended by Caroline Jones (Managing Editor, Sassy and Sassy Mama Hong Kong)
“I love that it’s a pretty casual restaurant, but the food is great and always tastes so fresh. You can even see the chefs putting the finishing touches to some of the dishes on the pass. And the staff are always so welcoming and friendly. You might even find them bringing you shots of Tequila and drinking it with you. This has now become one of our go-tos, not just for a date night, but for just about every occasion (including relatives or friends visiting HK, birthdays etc). Get your night off to a good start with one of its margaritas!”

Cuisine: Mexican with Japanese influences
Tips: Chino doesn’t accept reservations so be prepared to put your name down and grab a drink nearby while you wait (always a good excuse to extend date night by an hour or two!).
Price range: Mid-range

Chino, 1B-1C New Praya (on the corner of North Street), Kennedy Town, Hong Kong, 2606 0588, www.chinorestaurant.com

Cuisine: Jiangnan
Tips: Old Bailey is worth a visit any time of the day. The food is delicious and made with fresh, organic ingredients, the teas, kombuchas and mocktails cater to non-drinkers and the wines and cocktails are exceptional!

“This is a lovely speakeasy masked as an umbrella shop. There are live jazz performances, great ambience and tasty cocktails.
