Refuse is a serious problem in Hong Kong. Did you know that we throw away an estimated 1,368,000 plastic bottles EVERY DAY? Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you’re doing your bit to help solve the problem?
It’s that time of year to don your rubber gloves to spruce up our Hong Kong beaches! Registration is now open for the 13th Annual Hong Kong Cleanup Challenge – held this year from 21 September to 1st November 2013.
Registration is free and anyone can join. This is a great way to get your kids interested in the environment, but also out and about in the fresh air away from the TV and the iPad! It’s also good exercise for mama whilst taking in some of our SAR’s wonderful coastal scenery.
All you need to do is enlist the help of your friends and family and sign up your team now. Here’s how:
1. Register your team cleanup online at hkcleanup.org – choose when, where and what type of cleanup you’d like to do;
2. Wait for your invitation to a FREE education seminar, where you’ll get the info and tools you’ll need for a successful cleanup;
3. Clean up! Get out there on your chosen day, and have fun!
4. Return your data at hkcleanup.org.
All teams in the Cleanup Challenge are automatically entered into a prize draw, so you can feel good about helping the environment and yourself!
Last year a staggering 39,098 volunteers collected and counted 105,507 kilos of rubbish, cleaning up over 637km of Hong Kong’s coastlines, hiking trails and urban areas. So, the challenge is on to see whether this year’s volunteers can beat last year’s tremendous rubbish haul.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up, and clean up!
