Check out one of our favourite new places to go
Wong Chuk Hang is fast becoming the place to be and even the place to live. With ample living space (a necessity when you’ve got a fam!), an abundance of quirky cafes and family-friendly restaurants (whoop!), a heap of activities for the kids and the new MTR, we recommend heading over there to check what all the fuss is about. Here’s our list of all the great places (some new!) that make this district one we are quickly calling one our faves.
Healthcare
Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital
If you’re out and about with the kids, it is important to know where the nearest hospital and clinics are, so we’re making sure to add in Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital to our guide. It has 24-hour outpatient and emergency service, seven days a week, which means mums and dads can have peace of mind no matter what. Accidents aren’t predicted, so it’s nice to have a hospital that is there when you need it! Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital is private, which means you won’t be waiting for hours to see a doctor (like you might at a public hospital), and the prices are competitive, so your neighbourhood day trip doesn’t have to turn into a bank-breaking nightmare!

Where To Eat
Africa Coffee and Tea
This beautifully designed multipurpose venue brings a fun and energetic dose of Africa to our shores and is fast becoming a favourite with the Sassy Mamas. High up on the 15th floor is the Cafe & Bar (it also has a VIP Room for private parties and dinners). Meanwhile downstairs, mamas strapped for time can enjoy coffee, tea, juice, pastries and sandwiches at the ground floor Kiosk.

Golden Monkey

You can’t go wrong with Pizza Express. With a child-friendly menu and pizza making parties for kids, this is a regular go-to for families. There are some great veggie options for the non-meat eaters out there as well.

Sensory Zero
One of the area’s dining hotspots is definitely the spacious coffee house Sensory Zero. If your kids go to school in the area, drop them off and bring a laptop with plans of setting up shop for the day. Complete with free Wi-Fi, you’ll want to order a cold, creamy nitro coffee and tuck into a grilled baguette sandwich as you do some memoir writing or serious online shopping.

What To Do
Aberdeen Fish Market
This is the perfect spot for teaching kids about Hong Kong’s fish industry given the market supplies over 70 per cent of seafood in Hong Kong. Wander round the stalls and then head to the Aberdeen Fish Market restaurant – it’s one of Hong Kong’s hidden gems. You won’t find a menu on the table, but when you book in advance (necessary!) let them know your budget and they will sort out a special menu for your group.

Pao Yeu Kong Swimming Pool
Large, not crowded and cheap, you won’t have to sign on to an expensive country club for the summer here! With eight separate pools, lounge chairs, diving boards and lots of slides for the kids, this public swimming spot is perfect for a relaxed family outing on a sunny day.

Trybe
Secret time – in another life we would want to be professional gymnasts. Perhaps too late for us to try, but definitely not for your kids. Head to Trybe, Hong Kong’s premiere training centre for gymnastics and acrobatics. With dedicated classes for kids aged 3 to 16 years old, this is up there as one of our top activities in Wong Chuk Hang.

Wise Kids
