Every year, the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival brings writers to schools for talks and workshops, creating unique opportunities for young people to meet some of the world’s greatest storytellers. This year, there is an online version of the same. Four authors from the festival’s original schools programme will present their amazing tales to children. Kids can visit the website and click on the links to view the events live at the designated time. If they would like to ask the author a question during the event, they can email [email protected]. After the live event, these will also be available to view online at any time.

  • Wednesday, 3 June, 13:30pm to 14:30pm: Welsh opera singer Mark Llewelyn Evans takes kids on a time-travelling musical adventure with the Academy of Barmy Composers (ages 5 to 12 years).
  • Saturday, 6 June, 10am to 10:50am: Matt Zurbo talks about Spotting Stories Everywhere (ages 5 to 7 years).
  • Wednesday, 10 June, 1:30pm to 2:20pm: Sarah Brennan and Harry Harrison discuss how they created their popular books featuring the animals of the Chinese zodiac (ages 5 to 12 years).
  • Saturday, 13 June, 10am to 10:50am: Anna Tso reads aloud from her award-winning Hong Kong Stories series and is joined by illustrator Joanne Lo to talk about how they created these fun and original books (ages 5 to 12 years).
