Post Category - SchoolsSchools

Unlike some other international schools in Hong Kong which can be large, impersonal and highly competitive, Norwegian International School prides itself on its small, close-knit community where every child is known and supported. Add to that a unique outdoor learning programme and you have a recipe for success!

Choosing the right international school for your child is particularly overwhelming in Hong Kong, as several of them are large, impersonal and competitive. Tucked away in Tai Po, Norwegian International School (NIS) offers something different: a heritage Grade II Kindergarten campus, a close-knit community and one of Hong Kong’s largest outdoor early-years spaces. It is a small, caring Christian international school that offers a values-led, whole-child education from Kindergarten to Primary. If you want to know more before booking a school tour or a taster session for your child to experience NIS firsthand, read on…

Valuing Belonging As Much As Achievement

NIS differentiates itself by leaning into its close-knit, family-like community. It is proof that a rich and nurturing childhood, where every student is supported and surrounded by peers and teachers that know them, is vital for character development and future success. Yes, NIS offers strong academics with average academic ISA results ranging 480-500/600, but it is delivered with a Christian ethos in a warm and welcoming environment, ensuring its students feel a strong sense of belonging as well as achievement.

A Unique Approach To Early Years Education

Fully taking advantage of its scenic surroundings, NIS encourages its students to embrace nature by building a unique outdoor learning programme into its curriculum (IEYC for Kindergarten and IPC for Primary) and offering weekly Forest Play. Inclusive Facilities And Programmes

In addition to the supervised outdoor play and exploration, NIS has a treehouse-themed Primary library that kids love. It is designed to be a sensory-friendly, calming space that supports concentration. This fosters a lifelong love of reading for all learners, including SEN students. With the emphasis on small, intimate class sizes, each child is treated as an individual and given one-on-one support by their teacher, so anyone who needs an extra helping hand is tended to at once.

Peace Of Mind For Parents

Reduce the burden of constantly changing schools by picking NIS. It has a clear pathway from Kindergarten to Primary so for at least 8 years, you don’t need to be school-hunting or worrying about where your child will have to go next. Kids aged 3 to 11 are welcome at NIS, from those all-important early years right through to the end of Primary, at which point they will have strong foundations in academic and character development and be ready for ‘big school’. Primary students are also given Mandarin lessons everyday, while Kindergarten students get 20 minutes of Mandarin instruction a day, four days a week, preparing them for bilingual streams offered in several secondary schools.
