Our makeup expert shares her tips on how to wear this season’s hottest beauty trends
With the new year in full swing, we’re all about trying new things and updating routines that need some freshening up. Last year our beauty expert, Gabbie Lee, showed us how to rock that bronze-y glow without looking shiny, turn a Fall-inspired day look into date night ready and how to amp up our winter skincare regimen. She’s starting the year off by sharing her top tips on how to wear this season’s hottest trends. Now before you think this isn’t for you, know that all these trends have been adapted for wearable purposes (a day look or for an evening night out)!
Our first trend is all about that natural glow, after all, we believe that all mamas deserve to shine #rockstars Gabbie suggests highlighting your cheekbones for that healthy glow by using strobe cream or highlighting powder to achieve this look. She swears by MAC Strobe Cream (available at MAC stores) or Kevyn Aucoin’s The New-Highlighter in Sahara (available at Joyce Beauty).
The next trend is all about shimmery eyes (that can be achieved without sleeping more than a few hours!). Perfect for a girls’ night out or date night, the shimmery eyes is a beautiful way to elevate your evening makeup look. Gabbie suggests first dabbing the shimmer eye shadow with your fourth finger and then using a light brush to sweep across the entire eyelid. To achieve this, Gabbie swears by Urban Decay Moondust eye shadows (available at Facesss) and Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow (available at Beautylish).
Change up that daily eyeliner with a fun pop that will add a pep to your step. The next beauty trend is using colourful liners for a fun way to jazz up an every day look. Gabbie loves using the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (available at Sephora) and Christian Louboutin Oeil Vinyle Luminous Ink Liner Rouge Louboutin (available at Lane Crawford).
Say “goodbye” to those precision lashes and embrace the clumpy lashes this year. The fuller look is back in fashion, ladies, and it calls for layers upon layers of your current mascara. A great way to achieve this by using Gabbie’s go-to Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes (available at net-a-porter) and Diorshow Pump ‘N’ Volume Mascara (available at Dior).
Finally, the last beauty trend on Gabbie’s list has all to do with the lips. The totally wearable trend calls for a cherry stain and pop of gloss for a shiny pout. She loves using Kiko Lip Volume Plumping Effect Lip Cream (available at Kiko) or the It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Gloss Soft Stain (available at Beautylish).
