So you can enjoy a complete family staycation!
For many of us, pets are a part of the family. Having a loyal companion is wonderful for most of the year, but it can make travelling and holidays a little challenging. Luckily for pet owners, that is now changing thanks to an increasing number of pet-friendly hotels around the world. Travelling with your pet (especially if it’s not too big) is highly enjoyable, and can be simple and relatively low-budget. Whether you’re looking for a place to stay in between switching apartments, or have friends who want to vacation in Hong Kong with their fur babies, or simply fancy a perfect staycation with your pet, there’s an option for you.
You no longer need to worry about dropping off your pet at kennel or shelter or convincing your friends to pet-sit for a few days. These hotels will allow you to bring a pet, often for only a small fee. Some even go the extra mile for the animal in your life. We’ve listed some of Hong Kong’s best budget and premium pet-friendly hotels.
Available at both the Central and Southside hotels in Hong Kong, Ovolo’s V.I.Pooch package allows you to enjoy a family staycation with your dog! Offering your pet plenty of freebies, your dog gets his or her own doggy bed with an eating or drinking mat, food bowl, and a “Doggie bag” of treats. A maximum of two dogs are allowed per room, with a combined weight of 30kgs. You have to be responsible for the care of your dogs and take them outside for regular toilet breaks and pay for any damage caused (but we’re sure your dogs are as well-trained as your kids!). The only additional charge is $800 per dog for every night of stay and the hotel is allowed to cap the maximum number of nights you can stay with your furry friend.
This boutique hotel is perfect for a Hong Kong staycation, or if you wish to stay away from the hustle and bustle of city life on your visit. Situated on one of the most picturesque beaches in Hong Kong on Lantau Island, this small resort is ideal for you and your pooch. Dogs under 15kgs are allowed on request. There are four dog-friendly rooms available on the ground floor, so call or WhatsApp to check their availability before booking. Cleaning charges may be applicable ($200 for one dog, $100 for the second dog).
Centrally located in Causeway Bay, Hotel Pennington by Rhombus prides itself on its convenience. This convenience doesn’t just refer to its prime location; it also offers animal-friendly rooms so you and your pet can enjoy Hong Kong together. The hotel allows two pets up to 25lbs (11.3kgs) each. Both dogs and cats are welcome. While there is no additional fee, you will need to book the studio suite (or a separate paying guestroom for your pets) and provide your pet’s health records.
Just a two-minute walk from TST MTR, Hotel Panorama offers superb panoramic views of Victoria Harbour from its sky garden. It allows you to create a memorable trip with up to two pets and also offers services to pamper your pets with a playpen and toys. Do note that the hotel requires you to book two connecting rooms, if you choose to stay with your pet, and provide your dog or cat’s medical records. All pets must be below 25lbs (11.3kgs).
The Murray, Hong Kong is one of the city’s newest and most premium hotels. It offers fine dining, a rooftop bar, spa services and it even has a dog-friendly afternoon tea so you can pamper your pooch in style! Dogs under 10kgs are welcome and there are no extra charges. Just make sure to inform the hotel or agent while booking that you will be staying with your pooch.
While the Mandarin Oriental group is pet-friendly, policies vary from city to city. In Hong Kong, dogs are allowed on request (though this is restricted to dogs under 4.5kgs). However, if you have a heavier, but still small dog, you can call the hotel and it might be willing to accommodate your pooch. Only L600 series rooms (or above) can be booked for a stay with a pet. These have a contemporary design and even come with some luxuries for your pet. Only one dog is allowed per room and a one-time cleaning fee ($1,000) applies for a maximum stay of three nights.
Rosewood has become one of Hong Kong’s most iconic hotels and is conveniently situated on the Kowloon harbour-front. What’s more, Rosewood welcomes cats and dogs (weighing less than 33lbs or 15kgs each) free of charge! It allows a maximum of two dogs or two cats per room. The only restriction is that your furries are not allowed to enter the restaurant, club facilities, swimming pool etc., but that’s a sacrifice you’ll be more than willing to make for a night or two at this luxury establishment!
