For life’s most precious moments.
Have a birthday party planned for your little one? Or are you celebrating a personal or professional milestone? Maybe you need an annual family portrait to send cards back home, now that you won’t be travelling for a while? That’s why we’ve rounded up some of Hong Kong’s family photographers who can help you capture everything from your unforgettable pregnancy glow to your darling newborn’s first days to the proud moment when your now-grown baby graduates. These photographers have a wide range of skills and specialities (from cake smashes to underwater shoots) and will leave you oohing and aahing with nostalgia for years to come. Say, “cheese!”
Editor’s Note: The situation in Hong Kong due to the coronavirus is constantly evolving. Please make sure you follow the latest government advice on social distancing and stay home if you have recently travelled overseas, have interacted with anyone who has been away, or display any symptoms. Your family’s health is the top priority, so check the studio’s shooting procedures and safety policies beforehand. Most photographers and photography studios in Hong Kong are taking precautions and either limiting the number of clients they take on, postponing non-urgent shoots or offering vouchers to be used in the future, but do call ahead and check before booking your family photo session.
Inspired by fine art aesthetics, Little Stories specialises in lifestyle maternity, newborn, kid and family photography. It is a well-recognised studio and is an ambassador for the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) in the US and is all about capturing precious moments that convey beautiful and touching love stories. Founder Amy offers both lifestyle and fine art photography. She lives and works in Hong Kong so she knows all the special local locations and hidden gems around the city for unique lifestyle portraits. She works with trusted styling and make-up artists for her curated fine art photoshoots inspired by Impressionist and Modern Arts (personalised styling and mood board requires one-month booking in advance).
You can choose the signature film with digital photography which takes a timeless and minimalistic approach to photography – using film for consistent pastel colours and gorgeous skin tones and digital to cover various lighting situations for outdoor, intimate home, or invite Amy for a staycation photoshoot while you enjoy a break with the family. When you book a family session, you can add on an heirloom album or gallery-quality art prints; both perfect for capturing your most precious moments.
Early bird discount of 10% off when you book a session at least three months ahead. Valid until Wednesday, 30 September 2020, simply mention Sassy Mama deals while booking.

Want to get a truly international look and feel for your family portraits? Rebecca Sehn has been photographing families for over a decade, all over the world. She photographs families in Hong Kong each autumn (so get in touch with her now to book a session for later this year!) and throughout Europe in the springtime. At other times, Rebecca is based in Vancouver, Canada. Her promise is that her family photoshoots will deliver the dreamiest, happiest, most love-filled images of your family, with portraits full of movement and laughter. Rebecca uses a directed-candid approach and keeps her sessions child-focused, so the centre of your world will be centre stage in your family portraits as well. Her photographs blend fine art, candid, and environmental portraiture, with a touch of old-world charm and romance.
All these talented photographers are equipped to handle all sorts of requirements from their clients so you can count on them to deliver the shots no matter what the occasion, but we’ve categorised them according to what we love most about their skills and specialities.
Newborn And Maternity Photographers
Jules, Baby! (headed by Julia Broad) captures your family’s priceless memories, from bumps to babies, toddlers to cake smashes, reunions to farewells. Her speciality is documenting precious pre and postnatal moments, combining her fine portraiture training with her knowledge of newborn and early childhood development. For your newborn photography or cake smash session, you can head over to Julia’s studio which is set in her spacious apartment (she even has a tie-up with Bakehouse for nibbles to keep your energy up!) or you could have her come over to yours (perfect if you’re still recovering from giving birth). Maternity shoots are an opportunity to feel fantastic and feminine (whether in a ball gown or t-shirt and jeans). Every Jules, Baby! session promises to reflect the real heart of your family, giving you and your loved ones personal art to treasure for years to come. We love some of the That Mama features that Julia shot for us at Sassy Mama!
Betty of Bettitude Photography knows a thing or two about keeping her clients happy as she operates mainly on word of mouth referrals and repeat customer orders. The studio is in Kwai Chung, but Betty also shoots outdoors and at her clients’ homes. She offers maternity, newborn, infant, cake smash and family photography (she even does underwater shooting, since she started diving in 2008). The team knows just how to set everyone at ease. Betty has photographed up to three babies a day and has shot with over 900 babies since she started!
Janelle is a specialist in maternity, newborn and lifestyle family photos. Her style is to keep it clean and minimal, with a focus on shooting the subject in natural light and environment. Adopting a fly on the wall approach (we love her style!), Janelle observes, then documents her subjects’ daily lives. Janelle is careful to limit her bookings every month so she can focus on producing the best quality work for each client – you’re sure to get close personal attention! You can get a luxury photo album (complete with a fine Italian linen cover) and box to keep your precious snaps safe, and all photos are printed on US archival paper.
Here’s a photographer who proudly says that she doesn’t do engagements, weddings or corporate events. New mum Louise of Lullaby Images specialises in newborn portrait photography and on the request of her clients, has now started extending to sitter sessions (when your bub has just learnt to sit upright) and first birthday shoots. Find out more about her packages here.
These newborn photography specialists come with the stamp of approval from a Sassy Mama Editor. They offer newborn sessions at home, fresh 48 sessions where they come to your hospital to shoot within 48 hours of birth (if you have permission from your private hospital, of course), and also lifestyle shoots for older babies to capture intimate moments of your new family at home. This highly professional team knows exactly how to calm your baby (they carry a handy baby shusher) and can help you capture this most precious time in your baby’s life.
Sugar Drop Photography was conceived by a mum who spent hours feeding her son and looking at adorable but poorly executed photos of her baby. Realising that she had missed the opportunity to capture this really special time with her bub, she decided to enter the world of professional photography (she is also a school teacher!). She believes that making the effort (which is not really an effort) to get photos taken of you, your baby or your family is a decision you will never regret. She offers maternity, newborn, fresh 48 and family sessions.
Keith believes that the customer is king and promises that the final photos delivered will reflect your personality, memories, emotions and therefore your style and not his. He specialises in newborn, baby, family and pregnancy photos and has found a wide range of local and expat clients.
Family And Lifestyle Photographers
Jenna from Lucky Fish Photography aims for a balance between natural portraits and candid photojournalism. Originally from South Africa, she moved to Hong Kong in 2010 and has been photographing families, babies and children in a fun and modern way ever since. Though based in the 852, she is happy and excited to travel anywhere for a shoot. Check more information on her packages here. Jenna has shot a lot of fabulous features for Sassy Mama!
Covering portraits, parties and events, Kim Bacon Photography specialises in a wide range of children and family portraiture. Her many packages allow clients to choose what suits them best and how they would like to have the prints delivered or developed.
Argentina-born Ayelen grew up in a family that breathes art, with music, drawing and painting being part of her life. She prefers to use natural light, look and feel for her photos. Because she likes to keep things simple, she offers two basic shoot packages (lifestyle portrait and stylised studio) to allow you to choose the format and treatment that suits you better. Ayelen is a pleasure to work with (we can vouch for that!) and her relaxed style is evident in the pictures of the families she shoots with. She is now also offering family videos along with photographs if you want to add movement and sound to your memories.
This husband-wife team are quite the power couple in photography! Rosa founded the studio back in 1999, then 10 years later Daniel joined the ranks when they were expecting their first child. For the last 20 years, this modern portrait studio has been constantly evolving, shooting different genres including maternity, newborn, children and family photography, along with headshots, personal branding, wedding and contemporary beauty portraits. They are known for shooting large families, often straddling multiple generations, and often manage to capture the best expressions and reactions from different members of the group.
With an eye for detail, Sakshi loves to shoot photos in natural light with care and attention. Her portraits strive to capture the beauty of children (including our adorable fur babies) and the love within families. She can capture the essence of a family well and has shot some of our nicest That Papa profiles. She is also available for private events, birthday party photoshoots and business headshots. Click here for the different packages and fees.
Denise Pontak works with children of all ages and families to provide natural portrait shots. Whether it’s for a graduation or a toddler’s party, Denise is happy to work with you at a location of your choice or at her studio. Email her for more details on her popular packages and pricing.
The name says it all! This studio specialises in family and child photography. It offers year-long packages to capture the baby’s first year, as well as standalone maternity, newborn and party shoots. It also offers personalised birth announcements, invitations and greeting cards, in addition to the standard photo albums and wall-mounted frames. Prices vary, check here for more details.
Denice Hough is a new mum who says she just can’t stop taking pictures of her 10-month-old son! No surprise then that she enjoys shooting with families and capturing their most intimate and special moments. Her family photography package includes a 1-hour session and Denice gives the high-res files of all the shots to her clients. When booking a family shoot, Denice also donates a fifth of her fees to the local charity Mother’s Choice (which looks after the many children without families and pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong) so you’re giving back to the community as well. Alongside family photography, she’s also a specialist in shooting architecture and interiors (make a note of this for when you want to show off your gorgeous Hong Kong home!).
Though now based in London, Melanie travels to Hong Kong twice a year (most years when travel is possible!) for family photoshoots here. She offers both mini-sessions of one hour each and standard sessions that go up to two hours. The packages include the photography, a private online gallery, the complete set of fully edited high res digital files and an app including favourites for mobile devices.
If you like being photographed, but don’t want to pose, consider getting in touch with Venezuelan photographer, Verónica Sanchis Bencomo. Currently based in Hong Kong, she is also a photo editor and a contributing writer for many photography magazines worldwide. She is a member of the Hong Kong Journalists’ Association and a curator of photo exhibitions. We are happy to have worked with Verónica too.
Wedding, Event And Party Photographers
Samantha and her team have won the hearts of many mamas with their event styling, graphic design, floral arrangements and photography skills. A complete package for many important occasions like milestone birthdays for adults and children, family reunions and graduation ceremonies, they help create a memorable event and capture it beautifully for posterity. Nestology Studio bagged the runner-up award for the best family and kids photographer in the Sassy Mama Best of Hong Kong Reader Awards 2019.
With a celebrity clientele including actors and high-powered businessmen and women, Ali G Studios is one of the most preferred photographers for high-profile weddings in Hong Kong (also approved by the Four Seasons and Grand Hyatt for weddings in their properties). Having been mentored by the portrait photographer of Her Majesty the Queen of England Henry Dallal, Ali Ghorbani has been using his skills to document birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and family portraits. He’s travelled to 30 countries (so far!) and lived in six of them. His passion for candid photography makes him treasure each moment he’s allowed into client’s lives to capture their most precious memories.
Maria is a wedding and lifestyle photographer who loves capturing your most special moments. She specialises in natural portrait photography, shooting couples, proposals, expecting mamas, families and weddings, capturing honest connections and candid moments. You’ll be happy to have her be part of your special day, knowing that 10% of her profits go back to local charities. We are pleased to have worked with Maria as well.
Well-known wedding photographer Daniel Tam has an impressive celebrity clientele, with many of the local stars and models choosing him for their big day. He is also very popular for his family, maternity and newborn photoshoot services. You could book a shoot session at his studio in Kowloon or at a location convenient to your family.
This list would not be complete if we didn’t mention a few more favourites with HK Mamas. Venture Studios, Just Smile About It by Brian Jala Photography, Mariella Amitai and Speedycat Photo Studio are some of the better-known and well-loved family photographers in the city. Although not strictly photographs, former That Mama Joanna Bowers has recently launched Cheeky Monkey Kids, specialising in custom made films to celebrate your family – a perfect baby shower or newborn gift so you can relive those precious moments time and time again!
Now that you have the comprehensive list, you can get ready to capture a slice of your family life for keeps!
