Indulge in Sense of Touch’s V-day Forever Love Treatment for Two!

The hectic pace of life in Hong Kong and crazy working schedules mean that spa days are more of a necessity rather than a luxury here, but while settling into an hour-long massage is the quickest way to release built-up tension, it can also be the quickest way to break the bank! Most of the couples spa sessions in HK’s 5-star hotels are priced upwards of $5,000, which is one of the reasons I love Sense of Touch, letting you experience all the bells and whistles of a 5-star spa treatment without the insane price tags attached.

This multi-award winning spa is currently offering a Valentine’s Day Forever Love package, which includes two hours of romantic, indulgent spa treatments such as a body exfoliation and deep-tissue relaxation massage for just $3,180 – half the price of most high-end hotel spas in the city.

With seven branches across the city, you could easily pop into the LKF, Sai Ying Pun or Mid-Levels locations (for those caught up in the “Central bubble”), but if you’re after a real spa getaway, I would highly recommend making the trek over to the Tseung Kwan O branch. Yes, it’s a tad bit out of the way, but as part of the Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East and occupying 6,500 square feet in total, it’s night and day between what you would experience at one of the cramped spas in the heart of LKF.

ReceptionThe Sense of Touch facilities in Crowne Plaza are a stunning escape from the hustle bustle of the city, encompassing a spacious, well-lit lobby, tree-lined pathways, enclosed veranda, a relaxation room and seven Balinese-inspired pavilion villas with Thai village amenities.

After filling out a form indicating our preferred massage pressure, we were ushered into a beautiful treatment room complete with a milky bath drawn up, eucalyptus flowers and a personal steam/shower room.

IMG_9973The treatment started with a 30-minute relaxing bath followed by an exfoliating body scrub – featuring an Indonesian ginger sand scrub (I was told this was good for blood circulation in the cooler weather). The experienced masseuse worked the scrub into my skin from head to toe, applying gentle massage techniques to relax the muscles.

IMG_9974After rinsing off, we hopped back onto the super-soft massage beds for a whole-body deep tissue massage. This was heavenly, and when I wasn’t drifting off to sleep, I was thoroughly impressed by the masseuse’s technique, applying just the right amount of pressure in the sore spots and being able to work out all the tight knots (which I had quite a few of)!

There was a vast difference between this treatment and one of the in-and-out massage parlours in the city, where they work fast and furiously and pretty much kick you out the door when an hour’s up. At Sense of Touch, the pressure and movements applied by the masseuses are slow and gentle, but still with a firm touch which means they work out all your kinks and leave you with a heightened sense of relaxation and rejuvenation when the treatment is up.

IMG_9979After the two-hour treatment, we were led to the relaxation room where a platter of chocolate fondue with bananas and marshmallows, and two glasses of white wine awaited us – the ultimate luxury to cap off the night! When the weather’s warmer, you can also choose to have your snacks outside on the secluded patio, surrounded by a grove of trees.

IMG_9985Sense of Touch has partnered up with British skincare brand Elemis to create signature facial and body treatments at their salons, and while I hadn’t heard of this brand before the treatment, I became just a little obsessed with the body cleanser scent in the showers (I may or may not have used a quarter of the bottle…), which was a mix of lavender-scented essential oils perfumed with olive, marigold and carrot. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the product in the lobby shop, but you can purchase a whole range of Elemis’ other products, from lotions to creams to shampoos.

For the quality, length and add-ons of the treatment, the Sense of Touch Forever Love package is a wonderful option for indulging in a romantic spa sesh together with your hubby leading up to Valentine’s Day. In addition to the warming milk bath, body exfoliation and deep-tissue massage, you can also add on a customised revitalising facial for $680 extra. Hubby not a big spa person? Treat yourself to one of their individual pampering sessions instead, which starts at just $800 for a 1-hour deep tissue, detoxifying massage. Check out their full spa menu here – and if you can block out the time, I would definitely recommend making it a bit further out to Tseung Kwan O for a true tropical destination spa experience.
