New Kid on the Block: Polkadot Opens in SoHo

On Wednesday night I went to the Sip & Shop hosted by new store Polkadot. At last goddesses our prayers have been answered for fashionable clothing at affordable prices! YAY!

Polkadot is aiming to fill this massive gap in the Hong Kong market stocking a range of international designers as well as giving local talent a much needed chance to showcase their designs including fabulous jewellery at very reasonable prices from Bejewelled Bespoke and glorious frocks galore from What the Frock?! and stunning outfits with that WOW factor from Zero Noir. Again, I stress at reasonable prices… yippee!

Pieces are not only well designed but often handmade and one-of-a-kind with the majority being priced below HK1100 with an average price of HK700. Not only are the prices refreshing but so too is the relaxed, friendly shopping atmosphere — no more velcro shop assistants!

Current international designers include Canadian, Elroy Organics, that uses materials such as organic cottons and silks made from pineapple and banana leaf to craft good quality designs that are not only beautiful but kind to the environment.  British Designers include Emily and Fin, and Nancy Dee both specialising in gorgeous day-to-night outfits and from the States there are the talents of Ck Designs, Emily Elizabeth and Frolick Jewelry.

I love this silver skirt (also available in black both at HK680) teamed with the silk top (HK1080) below by Elroy.  These skirts are great for going out now and will work well into winter teamed with opaque tights and a nice cosy knit top.

Nancy Dee specialises in wondrous jersey numbers inspired by retro designs with bold prints and strong colour palettes that work easily from home to office to evening out.

Polkadot is the brainchild of duo Karen Starkey and Jamie Wenker, a Brit and an American with a passion for fashion and bringing us gals what we want at prices we can afford.  Jamie, a talented jewellery designer herself, has an amazing eye for jewels which is clearly evident throughout the store. Karen is a go-to girl and makes stuff not just happen but double quick and the speed in which this shop was set up is testament to that.

Polkadot chose to showcase the What the Frock girls at this Sip & Shop which is just one of many events to come. Sipping while shopping, we LOVE, so get yourselves on Polkadot’s mailing list pronto for the next one!
