Polar Adventure at Ocean Park: Beat the Heat Mamas!

Parties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play

Does even the idea of hitting up Ocean Park in high summer bring you out in a heat rash? Crowds, the beating sun, the way the cable cars are like little sweat-boxes for baking humans inside? Yep, we’re “glowing” at the mere thought of it! But little ones demand entertainment, and there’s no denying that our annual passes are burning a hole in our pockets… Prepare to rejoice mamas, as there’s a fab new way to stay cool even as the mercury soars!

Ocean Park’s brand-new Polar Adventure attraction is made up of five separate areas: South Pole Encounter (penguins!), North Pole Encounter (seals and a walrus!), a scary-looking rollercoaster called Arctic Blast, a funny little extra bit where they pop the slightly mangy-looking arctic foxes, and Tuxedos Café where you can grab a bite. At the heart of it all? The gift shop of course! So your tiny tike can demand their stuffed emperor penguin on the way out…

Kidding aside, the cold of the South Pole and North Pole areas is simply blissful. The South Pole Encounter where you can watch penguins swim beneath your feet is really chilly, kept between 8-10 degrees celcius, while the North Pole is a more pleasant temperature for prolonged wandering and you can watch the seals from both above and below water. We love how this attraction can be timed to take around an hour for the very little, so it’s a whole outing in one go. Hurray!

Sassy Mama Tips:
1) You might want to bring a sweater for the kids if they’re going to whinge about being cold
2) Take the Ocean Express train up and over the mountain and back if you want to stay air-conditioned
3) Arrive at 9.30am sharp (opening time) so you’re not fighting with the hordes!
