Sassy Mama Family Field Trips: Kennedy Town Swimming Pool

Parties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play - Post Category - OutdoorOutdoor

This week for our family field trip we found ourselves swimming at Kennedy Town Pool. If you missed last time, we were bobbing around Wong Nai Chung Reservoir in a Pedal Boat, and you can read about our experience here.

This week the intrepid field trippers were; one mum and dad, plus Gracie, aged 3, and another mum “enjoying” single parenting with Charlie, 3 ½ and Lockie, 5 months while her hubby was on a cricket tour in Russia! I should add that he did buy her the most fabulous bit of bling for her recent 40th birthday, so perhaps he’ll be forgiven.

Anyway, back to the field trip… once again we felt quite triumphant for managing to squeeze in another outdoor activity with all our inclement weather of late. If you’ve never been to Kennedy Town Swimming Pool it’s open to the public, and very conveniently located from Central. It has a really good kiddies’ pool with a couple of small slides and some quite aggressive spouts/jets of water which toddlers either LOVE or HATE; for the more gentle there are little model animals to bounce around on, and lovely warm shallow water to splash around in.

If you’re not so lucky as us with the weather, and you’re missing your swimming fix then another local indoor swimming pool option is Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Swimming Pool – again open to the public and based very conveniently to Central (near the Shun Tak Ferry terminal).

But back to Kennedy Town…

Hits: Cheap – admission is only $19 for Adults at the weekend and public holidays, whereas it’s only $17 Monday – Friday. Children between 3-13 years pay $9 at the weekend and $8 on weekdays. It’s a great place to meet friends with kids and no stuffy policies about taking guests in at the weekends like at most of the clubs in HK. Very good kids’ pool, or if you have older kids then they can burn off some energy swimming lengths up and down the larger pool. Easy to get to from Central – we normally just hop in a taxi.

Misses: Busy at weekends, so better to go in the week; the unpleasant hosing down that you get before you enter the pool – jets of water from all directions making it very difficult to dodge (most uncouth if you ask me!). No towels – yes it’s old-school… so don’t forget yours!

Need to know before you go: Closed on Wednesdays for cleaning (although if a public holiday falls on a Wednesday the cleaning day moves to a Thursday). Don’t forget your $5 for the changing room lockers and don’t forget your own towels! Make sure your visit coincides with the opening hours – see below.
