Let’s Talk Beauty: Talika Skincare Review

One of our bloggers tried out popular skincare brand Talika and saw visible, skin-renewing effects.

My usual skincare routine consists of the time-honoured three-step “cleanse, tone and moisturise” procedure. I don’t really step out of my comfort zone, and typically I stick to the same products, as my view is if something is working, why change? Sadly though, my skincare routine often fails me, and when I go for that annual facial I am always told that my skin is too dry and I need to start applying eye cream, NOW (charming but true). The truth is I don’t really pay much attention to the condition of my skin as it’s just another thing to add to my never-ending to-do list, but I’m a ‘box checking’ kind of girl, meaning if I am cleansing, toning and moisturising everyday then surely I am not going to age one bit, right?!

So when the opportunity came for me to review skincare brand Talika, it was an excuse to step into uncharted territory and see if another skincare brand could encourage me to dispense with the orthodox.

A quick background on Talika for those who are unaware: In 1948 a young ophthalmologist, Danielle Roches, established Talika after realising a bactericidal cream made with plant extracts that he had used to treat the war wounded showed very specific properties. In addition to treating injuries, this cream, when applied to the eye area, had a surprising side effect: Significantly boosting the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows of his patients. This led him to create a company focusing on beauty and growth of the eyelashes and eyebrows, and now Talika stands as a strong beauty brand today and has a huge celebrity following (history lesson over – thanks Talika!)

Talika Cream Booster

Cream Booster

First up, a little magic wand designed to enhance the effectiveness of your lotions and potions, called the cream booster. I was a little skeptical about using this as you have to use it for up to a minute on the target areas of your face (this may not sound long, but if you’re anything like me, you probably value every minute you have to get ready in the mornings!). After sticking with this skincare routine for over 14 days I have started to notice my skin to look a lot more healthy, but it hasn’t yet magically made the lines completely disappear. I found at the very least it was incredibly relaxing and rather therapeutic to use and left my skin feeling smooth.

Talika Bio Enzymes Mask

Bio Enzymes Mask

This second skin was my favourite Talika product. Face masks are a thing that I am absolutely in to. I love nothing more than to run a bath, apply a face mask and take 15 minutes to gather my thoughts and allow the mask to combat my skin troubles. The benefit of this mask is that I actually feel like it does something fantastic to my skin, leaving my face feeling fresh and bare. I will absolutely keep a supply of these in my cupboard – highly recommend!

Talika The Light Essence

The Light Essence

Once you have cleansed and toned your skin, apply this gel-like product to your face and neck, then take your little wand and gently glide it over the skin. The light essence claims to have the ability to naturally transform light energy into dermo-repairing energy and repair damaged DNA. I did notice a difference from using this product daily, but I feel honestly that it just adds too many steps to my daily routine. If I had bags of time to get ready in the mornings then I would absolutely use this religiously as I loved how gentle it felt on the skin.

Talika Anti Ageing Cream

Anti-Aging Cream

Apply this bad boy to your face and neck after applying ‘The Light Essence’. They promise visible, long-lasting results in only four weeks. I have found after two that I can already see visible changes in how my skin feels. This is a fairly heavy cream so I tend to do this routine more at night so my skin has a chance to fully absorb the moisturiser. I don’t normally like heavy creams (I definitely prefer gel to creams), but this feels rich and silky on the skin, and it doesn’t leave your face feeling sticky or unable to breathe.

Sassy Verdict

Overall the products I loved the most were the face masks and the anti-aging cream. I think this product is for you if you want to see visible effects quickly. They have a full range of products, so you don’t have to swap out your old routine for a new one, and (like me) you could pick and choose what works best for you. If you start to feel overwhelmed by even a simple routine, chances are you are not going to stick to an even more complicated one, so be savvy but also think about the long-term effects everyday life has on your skin and strike a doable balance (well, that’s what I have done, and I intend to stick to it).

Happy pampering, mamas!
