Mama-About-Town: Fun for kids at ArtHK, ‘Wich in Wanchai, new opening Ammo and Sassy’s Summer Guide!

Hi Mamas,

Phew, it has been scorching hot lately, so I’ve been all about the indoor activities unfortunately — my English blood tells me to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine, but the heat quickly drives me back inside! Still, there’s plenty to see, do and try around town while staying in the air con… Here’s what’s on my radar this week…

LP-Handscape
Hong Kong is in its annual art frenzy this week with the return of ArtHK, and there’s a way to get littlies in on the fun too, by attending Little Picasso‘s HANDSCAPE event for kids aged 3 and above at the festival. Little Picasso is teaming up with the Sovereign Art Foundation, a Hong Kong charity that raises money to help disadvantaged children using the arts, and is inviting you and your kids to come along to create some works of art like adding handprints to a huge canvas of the HK skyline, creating their own graffiti and making custom totes… For Free! For details call 3521 1046 or email [email protected].

Looking for a new lunch option? I’ve become addicted to new gourmet sandwich shop, ‘Wich, in Wanchai on Anton Street (above). It took me ages to find as the outside looks a little like a super-cool Japanese resto, but when you go inside you’ll be impressed. As well as being able to choose your own sandwich fillings to custom-make a favourite, they offer some pre-made options which are just sinfully fab. This porky preggers lady has been chowing down on their meatball baguettes with tomato sauce, fresh pesto and green beans. It’s not a light snack, but it keeps me going all afternoon long. Saintly, glowing yogis will be sipping their freshly squeezed juices at Mana, while I’ll be hitting up ‘Wich then even popping ’round the corner to Sift for a cupcake treat… Yep, I’m gross and I know it! Find ‘Wich at 2 Anton Street, Wanchai, 2529 1682.

It’s tough being the hot new restaurant in town… There’s always another one waiting to take your place! Mario Batali’s Lupa is kind of yesterday’s news now (check out Sassy’s honest review!) meaning you’ll probably now be able to actually get a reservation there, and all the buzz is now about Ammo. Newly opened in the Asia Society’s Justice Drive Centre, this all-day dining venue will serve modern Asian cuisine and is brought to us by celebrity chef and restauranteur Tony Cheng and Chef Roland Schuller from The Drawing Room. Call 2537 9888 for reservations asap!
