Have you ever wanted to climb a skyscraper, search for lost treasure at the bottom of the sea or kick the winning goal at the World Cup? Well, now you can, at the new Hong Kong 3D Museum in East TST. Covering 10,000 sq. feet, the trick art museum will take you on a visual journey with more than 70 paintings depicting old and new Hong Kong that let you be the director of your own creative 3D photos. This is definitely one for those snap-happy patrons who can’t help but post multiple selfies a day… here, no one will judge you for snapping numerous photos of yourselves, just be sure to bring a friend along so you can take turns being in front of the camera!

IMG_8623The Hong Kong 3D Museum is split into five zones: Modern Hong Kong, Hong Kong Memories, Chinese Culture, Love Journey and Imaginary Wonderland – all of which aim to explore and promote local culture. In addition to the wall paintings, there’s also a 3D experience zone with a starry sky ‘gazebo’, mirror maze, infinity tunnel, 3D virtual projection and trick art games.

中銀2We had a blast walking through the museum and staging fun photos in all the paintings (I say ‘in’ because some paintings literally cover three walls and you’re required to pose in all different ways, whether it’s jumping in mid-air, laying on the floor or sticking your arms and legs in awkward angles). There are photos next to each painting that show you the optimal position to pose so that the final photo will appear as if you’re a part of the scene (trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks!). Sometimes it takes multiple shots to get it right, so be patient and make sure you bring along a photographer with a good eye! (They also mark exactly where to stand for the optimal shot, which is super useful!)

IMG_7026We had fun posing on a soccer field, running on the side of a skyscraper, being chased by sharks and dinosaurs, munching bamboo with the pandas, practicing kung-fu and flying amongst the fairies. There are so many backgrounds and variations of pictures to choose from, and it’s endless fun for kids who’ll love seeing the photos of themselves set amongst surf, sand and sky come to life with them as the star. The best part is, you leave with all the photos as souvenirs to look back on!
