Deck the halls! We pick our fave décor spots in Hong Kong

Only five Fridays until Christmas! Can you believe it, mama? No, neither can we. Before the holiday season whizzes by, make sure you get into the spirit of things and pimp out your pad with all things festive and fun. You’ve probably already seen our epically long, comprehensive Christmas Décor Guide here from last year but if you really want to know the places that us Sassy Girls are heading to for ornaments, wreaths, tinsel and celebratory sparkle, then read on. We’ve picked our fave spots to hit up for Christmas décor this season… so get ready to deck the halls!

Lexi:
As a fairy light junky, Zara Home is definitely my go-to when the Christmas countdown begins. From wreaths filled with cute snowmen and delicate snowflakes to glittery candles shaped like Christmas trees, their festive range never fails to turn my apartment in to a (sophisticated!) Santa’s grotto.

Zara Home, 25 Harbour City, 3-27 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

Shaneli:
Christmas is incomplete without a quick trip to Brighten at Flower Market – it’s on my way home, after all! It’s just so simple and easy for me to pick up new ornaments, Christmas lights and candles in a timely fashion… cue me scrambling to get there the last Friday before the 25th! Prices are reasonable, the selection of ornaments is awesome (if you’re not heading there last minute like I do each year!), and you’ll be able to find anything and everything in this three-floor paradise.

My favourite place to pick up décor for the holiday season has got to be TREE. It’s been a Sassy favourite for home décor and eco-friendly furniture for a long time, and if you take one look at the latest Christmas collection you can see why. Think festive yet tasteful handcrafted decorations and Christmas-themed ornaments… I love the cute wooden rustic reindeers made out of natural materials which would blend seamlessly into any home. Not only are TREE products unique and tastefully designed, but they’re also made out of reclaimed, recycled and revolved pieces by skilled artisans and craftsmen in Southeast Asia. Your home will be looking good and doing good if you hit up TREE for your Christmas decorations this month!

TREE, 28F, Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong, TREE, 22 Elgin Street, Soho, Hong Kong, TREE, 116 Man Nin Street, Sai Kung, Hong Kong, www.tree.com.hk

Andrea:
We had just landed in Hong Kong a week before Christmas last year. We had no idea where to get anything and were living in a small serviced apartment which couldn’t accommodate much more than our four bodies and a couple sad strings of garland. We scrambled to find a last-minute tree and ended up with a 3 foot fluorescent green tinsel tree from Toys r Us which we decorated with some really weird (and expensive) ornaments we picked up from Marketplace. So I am looking forward to reading up on my colleagues’ favourite décor spots so we don’t end up with a tiny pathetic disco tree like last year… (ed note: Maybe try out these stores this year, Andrea!)

I’ve always been a little last minute with my Christmas shopping, but lucky for me Citysuper/Log-on Christmas fairs are always there to save the day. The fairs take place in venues such as Times Square and Festival Walk. The great thing about these fairs is that they have a huge variety of of Christmas necessities; from decorations and food, to wrapping paper and presents, all conveniently in one place. Another plus about getting gifts from Citysuper/Log-on is that they help you wrap everything too. However, I would suggest going at an unusual time as the fairs are super popular and can get quite hectic during rush hour!

Julie:
Honestly, what was life like before Ikea? Ikea is our one-stop shop for well… everything! And in traditional Scandinavian fashion, they do “vinter” holidays really well. From cookie cutters to tea lights, Ikea keeps to traditional colour schemes and motifs, but with that sleek, modern Ikea-touch we’ve all come to know and love. While a trip to Ikea may be daunting, just think about how much holiday shopping you can tick off your list in one store: candles, table decorations, gift wrap, new ornaments, stocking stuffers… even throw in some extra chairs to fit more friends and family around the table! And if you’re not up to enter the goliath that is the Ikea store, be lazy like me and order it all online.

Ikea, Park Lane Hotel Basement, 310 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay; Ikea, L4, MegaBox38 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay
