With your Advent calendars counting down, it might not feel like Christmas to some until you go to church at some point during the festive season. With many Christmas carol and church services in Hong Kong, both online or in person, you’ve plenty of options to choose from! This year, there’ll be a weekend of celebrations and gratitude, as Christmas Eve falls on a Friday, with Christmas Day on Saturday and Boxing Day on Sunday.
Soak up the celebratory atmosphere, enjoy traditional (and new) Christmas carols, be thankful for this past year and look forward to the next. With the chance of a mince pie or two as well, here are some of the English language services for all the family to enjoy the Christmas spirit in the 852.

St Andrews Church Kowloon (Anglican) – Carol singing services, children’s Christmas services, Midnight Mass In Hong Kong
While the full list of Christmas services for 2021 is yet to be announced (do check the website for the latest information), previous years at St. Andrews Church Kowloon (pre-COVID) have included family services and Christmas carols by candlelight, followed by mince pies and mulled wine in the court yard. This year, tickets to the popular Carols by the Campfire are now sold out, so we hope you got yours early! If you are attending, you’ll also get to make Christmas ornaments to decorate your Christmas trees, with a tree lighting before the campfire carolling begins.
Shatin Anglican Church – Family Christmas church service, carol singing services and a Christmas Day church service
Welcoming people from all backgrounds, this English-speaking Anglican church offers contemporary church services. It will open the doors to welcome you over the Christmas period with a host of Christmas services, including: Family Christmas (Sunday, 12 December 2021, 9:30 am), Contemporary Carol Service (Sunday, 12 December 2021, 11:30 am), Carols by Candlelight (Saturday, 18 December 2021, 6pm) and a Christmas Day Service (Saturday, 25 December 2021, 10:15am). Make sure to book in advance.
Community Church Hong Kong – Christmas Eve candle light church service in Central
Located conveniently in Central, Community Church Hong Kong welcomes worshippers from all Christian-based religions and anyone else who wants to join. The Advent season started at the end of November with various other services happening throughout December, culminating with a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 4pm and 6pm.
St Stephens Chapel (Anglican) – Carols by candlelight, family-friendly Christmas service, midnight mass Christmas service in Hong Kong
Located within the campus of St. Stephen’s College, Stanley, you’ll find a good selection of Christmas services at the chapel. There will be Christmas Lessons and Carols By Candlelight (Sunday, 12 December 2021, 6pm), a Christmas Eve Crib Service for young families (Friday, 24 December 2021, 5pm) and Midnight Mass (Friday, 24 December 2021, 11pm). You’ll also find a Christmas Day serves at 10am.
Discovery Bay Church (Anglican/Episcopal) – Family-friendly Christmas church services in Discovery Bay
A daughter church to St John’s Cathedral, the Discovery Bay Church will continue to have services every Sunday at 10am. Expect traditional Advent and Christmas services with a sung Eucharist for all the family. Children of all ages are welcome and there is also a creche at the back of the church for those aged up to three years old for use during the service.
St John’s Cathedral (Anglican) – Children’s Christingle service, Midnight Mass
This impressive building is a familiar face on the Central landscape. Here you can expect traditional Christmas church services and, if previous years are anything to go by, you’ll need to book your spot in advance. One Sassy Mama and her mother-in-law rocked up half an hour before the Midnight Mass was due to start back in 2018 and couldn’t get a seat at the inn. Though, the temporary outside altar turned out to be a magical experience with the city lights twinkling as the backdrop. Last year, all services were live streamed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The first festive service kicked off at the end of November with an Advent carol service (Sunday, 28 November 2021 at 5pm). Keep an eye on the website for the big December Christmas services.
Emmanuel Church (Anglican/Church of England/Episcopal ) – Traditional Christmas Advent church services in Pok Fu Lam
If you’re looking for a historic backdrop for your Christmas carols, head to the Béthanie Sanatorium in Kok Fu Lam. Traditional Anglican services are held every Sunday (Sung Eucharist at 10:15am, except on the first Sunday in the month which is a family service) in the George C. Tso Memorial Chapel at Béthanie, a neo-gothic chapel and heritage building built by the French Mission in 1875.

Lifehouse (Doctrinal basis of the Australian Christian Church) – In-person and online modern Christmas church services
This international church is based on the Doctrinal basis of the Australian Christian Church. Services are lively and energetic with modern religions rock and pop songs. In-person church services take place every Sunday at 11:30am, while online church services take place at 9:30am and 11:30am on Sunday, and 8pm on Wednesday. In-person spaces are limited so you will need to book in advance. There is also a Lifehouse Kids fun Bible-based programme for those aged between 1 to 12 years old on Sundays at 11:30am (11th floor). It’s Christmas church services are sure to be a fun affair!

Union Church (Christian Mission Church) – Family-friendly Christmas services, carol sinning services
Founded in 1844, the location of the Union Church has hopped around Hong Kong somewhat before settling in Kennedy Road. The site is currently under renovation so you can head to its Wan Chai location for any Christmas mass services in the mean time. You’ll find a whole array of Advent services including the Jazzy Family Service on Christmas Eve at 5pm, followed by Traditional Carols & Candlelight at 7pm. Christmas Day there’s a Christmas Carols & Choir service at 10:30am, and on Boxing Day you’ll find regular mass services at 9:45am and 11:15am. Registration for the services will close on Monday, 13 December 2021, at 10am.
The Vine (non-denominational Evangelical Christian church) – Energetic community Church services in Wan Chai
With an “upbeat rock” band creating an even more electric atmosphere, all are welcome to celebrate Christmas at The Vine. Services are held every Sunday at 9:15am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm, so there is plenty of opportunities to get in the Christmas spirit this December. You will need to pre-register for a service, registration opens every Sunday evening at 8pm for the services the following weekend. You can also join online with a livestream at 11am every Sunday via Facebook and YouTube.
Kowloon International Baptist Church – English-speaking services and Christmas events in-person and online
Here you’ll find in-person Sunday services (9:15am, 10:45am and 12:15pm) and an online service broadcast live from the 9:15am service (available anytime online afterwards). The Kowloon International Baptist Church (KIBC) also has regular Bible studies for Children and a Sunday school. The 10:45am service also has a nursery and is toddler-friendly. Along with Christmas church services, it will have a Christmas Music event (details to follow) and a BBQ dinner on Friday, 17 December 2021, 5pm to 9pm.
Resurrection Church – Modern Christmas church service in Sai Kung
This is an international, English-speaking Anglican Church and daughter church of St. Andrew’s, Kowloon. The church as been serving English speaking community in Sai Kung and Clear Water Bay for over 30 years, and welcomes people from all walks of life. Catholic Christmas Church Services In Hong Kong – Advent mass
