How well do you know the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival? 🐉⁠

The Tuen Ng Festival’s tragic roots trace back to the suicide of Chinese scholar Qu Yuan as a protest to the government 2,000 years ago by drowning himself. The locals tried to save him by furiously paddling down the river and by tossing zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) to the water as an offering while beating drums loudly to ward off evil spirits. Qu Yuan wasn’t saved.⁠

Despite the sad ending, the Chinese commemorate his death through the Dragon Boat Festival, which has now become a modern international sport with a worldwide audience and is definitely a fun day out for the family.⁠

2. SUMMERFEST 2023 At Central Harbourfront
The annual SUMMERFEST returns this year! This grand 45-day outdoor programme will feature 25 activities with the theme “Fun in the Sun”. Highlights include bus-themed game booths, pop-up stores, dance shows, moonlight yoga and more!

When: Friday, 9 June to Sunday, 23 July 2023; 3pm to 9pm.

3. STEAM Workshops At Hong Kong’s Children’s Discovery Museum
Head to the Children’s Discovery Museum where you and your kids will be able to participate in mini STEAM workshops. You’ll learn to make everything from creative toilet paper roll creatures to mini-building models made from straw and more!

4. Hot Toys x “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” Exhibition
Attention Spider-Man fans! To celebrate the latest chapter of the Spider-Man animated movie series, Sony Pictures and Hot Toys have collaborated to launch an exciting exhibition at Harbour City. It will feature over 80 never-before-seen movie design sketches, character illustrations, and numerous photo spots that bring the Spider-Verse to life!
