Here at Sassy Mama, we’re firmly of the belief that Mother’s Day should be our time to be cherished and spoiled, and that it’s definitely not our responsibility to arrange our own celebration, (after all, we’re on organisational duty for the remaining 364 days per year!)
That said; if your wee cherubs require a nudge in the right direction when it comes to showing their beloved mama some loving appreciation, feel free to leave this page open somewhere prominent…
Here’s what we’ll be wishing for this Mother’s Day (other than a lie-in.)
Dining
A way to a mama’s heart is through her stomach, especially when it comes to a meal that she didn’t plan, shop for, prepare or cook! Here are just a few of the dining options we’re loving the sound of:
Cuisine Cuisine’s 9-course Mother’s Day feast is a great excuse to get the whole family together. Dishing up delectable Cantonese dishes for 8 people per table, this Michelin-starred resto makes for a wonderfully refined option.
There’s afternoon tea with a twist on offer with FINDS, Hong Kong’s first (and only!) Nordic restaurant. The Nordic Afternoon Tea will undergo a Mother’s Day facelift, with a few new sweet treats and the brilliantly named ‘Jörd’s Love’ cocktail especially concocted for the occasion.
Elements’ Grand Central Bar and Grill will offer a special Mother’s Day brunch menu that includes delish comfort food like truffled scrambled eggs and waffles, along with a cosmetic gift from UK fave brand, Boots No. 7.
Jean-Paul Hevin’s Mother & Daughter’s Afternoon Tea Set is available all the way through until 19 May, and features such calorific (but drool-worthy) temptations as Earl Grey & caramel milk chocolate almonds, Quinola and Framboise cakes and those award-winning macarons. And if you’re a caffeine-fiend, Nespresso are giving away a $100 Jean-Paul Hevin gift voucher when you buy 9 sleeves of their Grand Cru blend, so if you can’t make the afternoon tea, at least you’ll enjoy a perfect patisserie at home with your cup of joe!
Quirky-cool Wan Chai eatery Madam Sixty Ate have delectable Mother’s Day lunch and afternoon tea options on offer. Lunch includes a special skincare and fragrance gift, while afternoon tea comes with a makeup treat for mama.
Head to The Mandarin Oriental for a classy champagne brunch at either Mandarin Grill & Bar or The Clipper Lounge – with a complementary carnation to take home. Fancy some blooms but their pocket money won’t quite stretch to a full brunch? We’ll settle for a pot of the signature Rose Petal Jam from the Mandarin Cake Shop!
We loved brunch at the Bostonian, so we’re definitely looking forward to Palm Court‘s Mother’s Day afternoon tea at The Langham Hotel, complete with a marshmallow jamming session for the kids and a Shiseido skincare gift for mama.
If mama loves French décor as much as the cuisine, Petrus at the Island Shangri-La offers a beautifully presented Mother’s Day lunch in a setting reminiscent of an opulent Parisian salon. This one is suitable for kids aged 6 and up and boasts one of the most extensive wine lists in Asia.
Prefer home-cooked but fear for your kitchen? Secret Ingredient’s Mother’s Day Feast is your solution! Order before Friday 10 May and everything will be delivered to your door – diced, measured and ready (for someone else) to cook using the step-by-step instructions provided. Put your feet up with a glass of wine, mama!
Another great Kowloon-side option – Wooloomooloo Prime’s Mother’s Day Set Lunch ticks all our boxes; there are yummy savouries, indulgent sweets, a glass of something bubbly and a view we’ll never get tired of.
Pampering
We all need a little R&R from time to time, and what better day to head for some downtime than Mother’s Day? Here are a few suggestions that will have you walking on air:
It’s not all about Sunday 12th, you know! The ‘Sweet Treat for the Sweetest Mum’ package at Langham Place’s Chuan Spa is available every Tuesday, Wedsnesday and Thursday throughout May and June, and includes a 60-minute signature massage for Mum followed by an afternoon tea set for two… if you choose to share, that is!
What price a lifetime’s maternal adoration and care? We’ll settle for something in the region of $19,888! The Mira Hotel’s Sumptuous Sanctuary package includes a night in the super-luxe 2,400 square foot Grand Mira Suite with its own Jacuzzi and outdoor terrace, a 4-course dinner for up to 8 people in your room and a facial and massage at the MiraSpa. Call it an investment in a relaxed and happy mama…
For an iconic Hong Kong experience, The Peninsula Spa’s ‘Mum’s Favourite’ package is the way to go. Offering a body exfoliation, massage, use of the spa’s heat facilities and a healthy poolside afternoon tea, the package is available weekdays throughout the month of May.
Relax with your head in the clouds at The Ritz-Carlton Spa by ESPA. The world’s highest spa is offering a pampering package for two that incudes a facial, massage, refreshments and use of the pool and heat facilities.
Head to Sparadise for an all-organic spa day and check out their fab spa boutique, currently featuring the Yeu LOVE handcrafted treasure box. This thoughtful Mother’s Day gift is handcrafted and painted in Vietnam, and for each one sold, Sparadise will donate $50 to the Saigon Children’s Charity. This organisation will be close to any mama’s heart, working with disadvantaged Vietnamese children by building schools and offering scholarships.
Flowers
Last, but not least, beautiful blossoms are a welcome gift at any time of year, but particularly so for Mother’s Day! Here’s three of our absolute faves for pretty petals, and one with a discount too!:
Check out local floral design company Ellerman Designs’ beautiful, artistic and super-creative pieces for the sort of display you’ll be sharing all over Instagram.
If you are looking for a florist that will deliver both to Hong Kong and worldwide (in over 180 countries!) then Flora2000 are offering Sassy Mama readers a very generous 20% discount, just in time for Mother’s Day. Simply enter the voucher code F2MDAY20 upon checkout to bag your discount.
And the icing on our fantasy Mother’s Day cake is a flower delivery subscription from Pacific Petals. Offering a weekly subscription of designer blooms, this service also creates one-off arrangements that will make you swoon.
So, cushions plumped, cup of tea in hand, feet up… now relax, mama!
