Happy and healthy little ones at Stamford American School

Don’t worry, we get that parenting is no easy job. There’s a fine line between banishing ALL boundaries in the hopes that your little angel will never ever shed a tear, and putting Peppa Pig on to stop the crying one, two or ten times a week (hey, we’re not counting!).

Well, mamas, if you’re looking for a school that is perfectly in line with your core family values, Stamford American School could be just the right fit. These experts completely promote the idea that happier children achieve more, so they offer a Structured Programme (using the award-winning Second Step methodology) to promote those much needed skills. Learning takes a new form when you teach empathy, emotion management and conflict management

Happier students, higher grades! Yup, it’s true: In 2015 Research Schools International found a significant correlation between happiness and academic success. Stamford has recognised this link for years and already promotes it at their Singapore campus.

Their new Hong Kong campus (launching September 2017) will be bringing in this structured and highly successful Social Programme right to our city! Developed by the Committee for Children, a non-profit organisation helping students in over 70 countries, the programme works to pro-actively combating bullying, whilst increasing positivity, behaviour and academic performance. This social curriculum teaches these critical life skills weekly to all students from Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) to Grade 5. And from Grades 6 through 8, Stamford uses the Stepping Up and Stepping Ahead programmes. These cover more advanced areas of personal and social education, in further preparation for more advanced education and key life skills.

Hong Kong has a high-pressure education system, across both local and international schools. Due to the competitive, fast-paced nature of this buzzing city, this atmosphere and attitude toward competitiveness is brought down to children at the schooling level and has a negative impact on their mental health. Stamford is set to change this (overly!) competitive mindset by bringing in a proven model from their sister campus in Singapore – that ensuring children have a balanced life and a positive mindset actually leads to higher academic results.
