Time to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in with the kids!

If there’s one thing that children have in abundance (as well as energy), it’s curiosity. Combine that with limitless creativity, and you could have the makings of the next Fernando Botero or Pablo Picasso on your hands! So why not encourage that passion by taking your budding artist to the third annual Little Basel.

Organised by the Dalton Learning Community (which consists of MiniDalton Playgroup, Little Dalton Kindergarten and Dalton School Hong Kong Primary School), head over to the Dalton School Hong Kong (DSHK) from Saturday, 23, to Sunday, 24 March. The school is pulling out all the stops with over 20 live activity stations (spaced around its 100k square foot campus) for kids aged 1 to 10, including:

  • Fernando Botero 4 Kids
  • Dance with the Hong Kong Ballet
  • A kids auction hosted by a Christie’s auctioneer
  • Hip hop, cooking, digital art and digital music programmes
  • And even learn to mix and blend beats with a DJ to set the mood!

The theme for this year’s festival is the Future of Hong Kong begins with the first DOT, inspired by Art Basel and children’s book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds (about a teacher who encourages a child to express herself, leading to endless possibilities). With that in mind, it’s also fitting that the Hong Kong charity Changing Young Lives will collaborate with the team, in the hope that children from all walks of life can enjoy a hands-on art experience.

With a child centred, dual language approach (class time split evenly between English and Putonghua), DSHK is an international primary school passionate about growing its students’ enthusiasm for all things — especially art related. With the motto “Where children are our curriculum, and the world is our textbook”, it’s the school’s mission to grow a community of global learners and thinkers.

In DSHK’s eyes, art is not just for the privileged. It believes every child has the right to a rich and inspiring experience to explain the world around them, help them overcome barriers, improve their communication and spark their imagination. During the event you can also learn more about DSHK and what it has to offer, with its School Information Sessions (Saturday, 23, and Sunday, 24, March, 2pm).
