As our little ones grow in an ever-digital world how can we keep the love of books alive?

With over 450 years of British educational heritage, Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong has made it their mission to focus on a unique primary education — and reading is no exception. With a range of opportunities for primary children aged from 3 to 11, Shrewsbury is committed to developing a love of reading among students by making it a key focus in its efforts towards developing confident, articulate and happy children. Though, as our kids grow in a changing digital landscape, is it possible for them to appreciate the love of a good book in the same way us mamas (and papas!) did when we were young?

To tackle the topic, Shrewsbury has invited the acclaimed children’s author of the popular Chinese Calendar Tales picture books, Sarah Brennan, to host the seminar: Creating Bookworms in the Digital Age. Originally from Tasmania, Sarah has lived in Hong Kong for the past two decades and shares Shrewsbury’s passion for nurturing the next generation of literary lovers. Sarah’s books have been nominated for numerous awards, including the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards in her native Australia and the UK’s prestigious Kate Greenaway medal, among many others. She has also written extensively on the benefits of parents reading with their children for local publications and on her own popular blog.

Creating Bookworms in the Digital Age will include:

  • How to create a stimulating and inspiring reading environment
  • Choosing the best-fit books for your children
  • Nurturing your children to become readers in the digital age
  • Sharing reading tips and suggestions with parents
