Fall vibes only…
Although it may not feel like it outside, Autumn is officially here and I’m not mad about it. Growing up in Canada, I have always loved watching the leaves change colour, the onset of cooler temperatures and of course, injecting richer and darker hues into my wardrobe and makeup regime.
Without wanting to recreate my high school prom look (aka me attempting a rusty-orangey bronze shadow which resulted in dodge-y panda bear eyes…) I turned to makeup artist extraordinaire, Gabbie Lee. Having been working in the industry with top celebrities and influencers, Gabbie is not only at the forefront of setting trends but also knows what works for every size, shape and colour. And for this mama, I wanted something easy to recreate but also a little upgrade to my every day look. Enter, the coral lid and plum lip look. Click through to see the transformation of yours truly!

Before applying any makeup, it’s important to prep your skin with eye cream, moisturiser and primer. Gabbie suggests applying a thin layer of eye primer to increase the staying power and vividness of the shadow.
Next apply a matte light coral eye shadow on the lids as a base and then a darker coral in the crease. Blend with a matte dark brown eyeshadow to create a deeper crease and dimension.
Brighten those eyes and give your lashes a lift with a healthy application of liner and mascara. Carefully apply liquid black eyeliner as close to your eye line as possible and then blend with a dark grey or black eye pencil for a softer look. Gabbie swears by MAC’s Powerpoint Eye Pencil.
Next, give your lashes a good curl and then apply generous coats of mascara in a zig-zag motion. Gabbie’s pro tip: start applying the mascara from the root and then out to get all the product on the lashes.
I have’t had a good night’s sleep in years (#mumlife) so foundation and concealer are my best friends. Gabbie applied her blend of her favourite foundations from The Ordinary Coverage Foundation in 2.0N and Laura Mercier in Beige Ivory bringing life to my tired face. Blend well using your hands, a brush or a sponge.
Say “bye, bye, bye” to the panda eyes and apply concealer under your eyes to cover those dark circles. Gabbie’s pro tip: Use a salmon or peach concealer to colour correct the darkest parts under your eyes. Next, apply a concealer that is one tone lighter than your own skin to brighten the area.
Lock everything in with a light dusting of translucent face powder. Gabbie’s favourite is Laura Mercier’s translucent setting powder. Next contour and highlight using contouring powder that is at least two shades darker than your skin colour.
Next, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks to add the colour and warmth back into your face. Use a peachy pink tone to match the colour of the eye look for a complimentary look.
We’re almost there! Line the waterline using a light brown eyeshadow. Next, frame your face by filling out your eyebrows using a combo of a brow pencil and powder. Gabbie’s pro tip: Use colours that are one to two shades lighter than your hair colour for a softer look.
Lastly, line your lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and fill with a light brown nude shade. Gabbie is loving the new Guerlain Intense Liquid Matte in M65. If you want to transform this look into date night ready, opt for the gorgeous plum colour from Guerlain Intense Liquid Matte in M69.
And there you have it, the final fall makeup look!
Gabbie uses a variety of products for this look and most can be purchased in Hong Kong or online. Laura Mercier and Guerlain products can be found in Lane Crawford, The Ordinary on www.asos.com, and Charlotte Tilbury on Net-a-porter.
