Fashion with a conscious

Did you know that the fashion industry is one of the most wasteful industries out there? With the entire world making eco-friendly strides towards a greener planet, all of us at Sassy HQ are also on the look out to make a smaller carbon footprint especially when it comes to fashion.

Thankfully for us, there is a new generation of designers who have their minds set on changing the norm. From supporting the shift towards a more conscious way of living and consuming, these brands encourage their customers to be more mindful. Just as we do our due diligence in check out the ingredients in our children’s food, these brands are encouraging consumers to look at fashion the same way.

The American Women’s Association of Hong Kong (AWA) is hosting a Conscious Couture Fashion Show for Charity. With over 60 years of giving back to the local community, AWA continues its philanthropy through this event. The goal of the fashion show is to raise $1 million dollars which will benefit local charities that support at-risk women and children, the elderly and the disabled. This is something we can definitely get on board with!

We’re excited to be introduced to a variety of new designers who are paving the way towards eco-conscious shopping and fashion. Each designer (locally grown talent!) was selected based on how they make each garment. From sustainable manufacturing processes and materials to what the item was made with (recycled fibres, natural dyes or organic materials). There is also an emphasis on whether or not the manufacturing process provides a fair, living wage for its factory workers.

These designers include Heritage ReFashioned which takes up-cycled vintage textiles from China, Japan and Bhutan to create colourful and stylish handbags and accessories. Classic ANew works with recycled fabrics to create modern interpretations of traditional Chinese clothing – we’re loving the mandarin collar jackets! If you’re into unisex threads with great silhouettes, and the designer is mindful of the usage of fabric, then Modement is for you. Cambodian artisans carefully handcraft Emi & Eve jewellery which is a means of providing sustainable livelihoods for the locals. Sera by Raashi goes glam with luxury evening gowns and cocktail dresses with all the delicate and intricate embroidery done by a group of artisans in Indian. And finally, La French Cut is every mama’s dream come true with it’s bespoke designs for comfortable heels. The custom made process allows for minimal material loss, you can look good and feel good about what you’re wearing too!

Book a night out with your girlfriends for this worthy cause and enjoy an evening of champagne and delicious canapés, a performance by singer, Jolie Chan, live auctions of the runway looks, incredible lucky draws and more! Plus, everyone will get to leave with a goodie bag worth over $1,000 filled with chocolate, beauty samples, organic products and more!

Make sure you buy your tickets early to support this meaningful cause and be a part of the movement towards mindful consuming and eco-conscious fashion!
