Hello, Blue!
One of our favourite butchers serving up quality cuts of meat and delicious dry aged beef, Blue Butcher has gone through a facelift! We’re happy to report that under a new name, Blue – Butcher and Meat Specialist, their weekend brunch has never been better. Check out our contributor, Pauline’s decadent review… you’ll be making your weekend booking stat!
Having heard such an amazing things about Blue Butcher before, I was excited to check out their new and updated spot, now renamed, Blue. Situated on one of the hottest streets in Soho, Hollywood Road, the location and space couldn’t be more perfect. Their vibrant blue sign pops out at you as you walk by 108 Hollywood Road. Loyal regulars of Blue Butcher will be happy to know that there was no drastic change in terms of the interior. Their chairs and tables have been given an update to reflect a more elegant vibe.
For mamas using strollers, we have to say that this is not the most convenient spot for you and bubba. There are a flight of stairs before you can reach the main floor. Once you’ve made it up, you’ll be pleasantly greeted by warm greeters that welcome you into a spacious dining area with an open kitchen and bar all while reflecting the uber cool atmosphere Blue is bringing to the table.
I got to try their new weekend brunch deal for $390 per person, which included a buffet selection of salads, fresh seafood and delicious foie gras. Um, yes, please! Along with a choice of one out of six selected main dishes, and a dessert buffet of ice cream, crepes and their daily cake selection! Signature cuts of meat are also available with an additional charge depending on the cut of your choice. Bring your stretchy pants, mamas!
The brunch deal is a total winner. Their buffet selection was amazing! The shrimp and oysters were absolutely fresh, the cheese was exquisite and the bread brought me back to summer in Paris. My favourite had to be the freshly seared foie gras paired with toasted bread and jam that instantly dissolved in your mouth like butter… I would’ve eaten so much more, but I needed to save space for the mains!
I would highly recommend the 45 Day Dry-Aged Butcher’s Burger served with skinny fries and their homemade aioli. The beef patty was cooked perfectly at medium rare and I could even taste a hint of truffle oil which was tied together with glorious melted cheese.
Another star definitely had to be the Spanish Suckling Pig Roll with their homemade Brioche Bun. The pork was so tender it just fell apart, paired with the brioche bun, the entire sandwich simply melts in your mouth!
And of course, we have to talk about the desserts! I definitely saved space for the delicious sweet treats waiting for me at the dessert table. There was a selection of crepes with either dark, milk or white chocolate, berries and syrups. I went for berries in my crepe drizzled with chocolate sauce, dusted with icing sugar and a spoonful of whipped cream. The cakes they offered on the day were apple crumble with a velvety vanilla sauce and a dark chocolate tart.
I honestly had no complaints, the chocolate sauce for the crepe had a hint of toffee in it, the berries were sweet and everything together was bliss in my mouth. The whipped cream and vanilla sauce were a match made in heaven with the apple crumble. As for the dark chocolate tart, the crust was the best part in my opinion. It had a certain crunch to it and it wasn’t too filling or overwhelmingly sweet.
If you’re looking for good weekend vibes, there is a live band duo that plays every weekend, near the dessert buffet as you pass by. Their music sets you up for a chill afternoon enjoying great food with the whole fam.
If you’re feeling the need to treat yourself a little bit more (and who are we kidding, we’re all about #treatyoself here), enjoy their free flow for $290 with the choice of six drinks for two hours. Otherwise, enjoy a cocktail (try the Mulberry Fizz for that sweet kick), coffee, tea or juice on the side along with your scrumptious meal.
The staff at Blue were 100% accommodating and so warm and friendly. Our waiter, JR, made sure we had everything we needed during our brunch, and the receptionist was very informative about the revamp of Blue. The kitchen service was on time and the chef was lovely enough to make sure we had all the food we ordered.
Having a family Sunday brunch at Blue would be the perfect place to spend the afternoon. The ambiance was very family friendly and the little ones would definitely enjoy the food and live music. But don’t just stick to weekend brunching with the fam. Check Blue out for a hot Friday date night with the hubs! A couple glasses of wine, amazing steak and good service? What more could you ask for?
