Here at Sassy Mama, we’re already gearing up for the holiday season (keep your eyes peeled for all our fab festive guides coming soon!), but there’s still plenty round the city to keep us busy until we get to open the first door on our advent calendars! Here’s our guide to what’s hot next week:

Start your Christmas shopping
Have you checked out our bumper holiday fairs guide yet? Well if not, it’s here – your one-stop shop for all the best holiday fairs over the next two months! Nevertheless, the one to hit up this week is City Kids Christmas Fair. There’s plenty for both you and the littlies to enjoy, including a bouncy castle, face-painting, cupcake-decorating, craft-making, games, stalls from Sassy Mama faves Hocusadabra, Hey Kiddo and Mirth and many more, plus a visit from Santa himself

Where: City Kids School, 12 Borrett Road, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong
When: 19 November, 12-5pm
How much: Free!

Get the chills!
If your teen’s got the Twilight bug, how about checking out the first horror/fantasy novel written by a HK teen herself? Kathryn Chua’s Midnight Walking is a spooky thriller about a young girl who becomes entangled with a magical being who drains people’s souls… we’re getting goosebumps already! Kathryn will be at Bookazine for the novel’s launch, plus a signing session, and there’ll also be scary tattoos and sweets from Sim’s Sweet Shop for all attendees. Space is limited so book your spots soon!

Where: Bookazine, Shop 309, Prince’s Building, 10 Chater Road, Central, Hong Kong
When: 19 November, 12-2pm
How much: Free; RSVP to [email protected] or 2522 1785

Cooking and caring
Get the kids cooking – and conserving the environment – with a special Sustainable Seafood Cooking Class at Grand Central Bar & Grill. Your little chefs will get to make, bake and eat a yummy seafood pie, all made with sustainable ingredients of course, and hopefully you’ll manage to get a bite in too! In-keeping with the conservation theme, all proceeds go to the WWF, and the ticket price includes all ingredients and one soft drink too.

Where: Shop R001, 3/F & Roof Civic Square, Elements, Kowloon, Hong Kong
When: 19 November, 3-5pm
How much: $100, call 2736 4888 to book a place

It’s turkey time!
Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, you can’t deny it’s the perfect chance to indulge in some scrummy roasted turkey and some even scrummier pecan pie! Can’t be bothered to do the cooking – and washing up – yourself?! Join the club… and go to Lily & Bloom for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner instead! They’ll be serving huge turkeys to carve up tableside, plus a selection of all the yummiest pies – and they’re so yummy, you might wanna take an extra home with you too! (You can also check out the rest of our Thanksgiving recommendations here)

Where: 5/F LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong
When: 21 November, 5pm until 27 November, 11.30pm
How much: Whole 2kg turkey $1260, half $650; call 2810 6166 to reserve your bird in advance!

An afternoon at the cinema
There’s a few new releases that have caught our eye this week… for little explorers, everyone’s favourite young Belgian adventurer is taking to the big screen with The Adventures Of Tin Tin. It should be a rip-roaring ride for little boys, especially as it’s presented in 3D IMAX for a truly eye-popping experience! Don’t despair mamas, we’ve got something for you too, with the return of Carrie Bradshaw… errr, we mean, Sarah Jessica Parker… with I Don’t Know How She Does It, an adaptation of the Alison Pearson book about how a working mum balances family with her career (all probably whilst having great shoes too). Did we mention it’s got eye candy in the shape of James Bond… errr, we mean, Pierce Brosnan… too?! We’re sold!

Where: Tin Tin – UA IMAX Cinema, 7F iSquare, 63 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, I Don’t Know How She Does It – AMC Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong
When: I Don’t Know How She Does It, Out now; Tin Tin, from 24 November
How much: Tin Tin in IMAX – $120-130, I Don’t Know How She Does It – $75
