Canvas or Clothes? Introducing: The Art Edit
Hong Kong gets arty this month as Art Basel (24-26 March) www.artbasel.com, Art Central (23-26 March) www.artcentralhongkong.com and Asia Contemporary Art Show (24-27 March) www.asiacontemporaryart.com exhibits the best of the best in art from around the world. With all fairs offering a good family day out, I thought it would be fun to pick out a wardrobe that suits even the youngest art aficionado. Here I take inspiration from famous artists to come up with the art edit for kids.
Whereas Damien Hirst’s visceral exhibition of a shark, a sheep and a cow made headlines, I feel that Cotton On will take the spotlight with its depiction of a more exotic, cheerful animal. Featuring a pretty sequin or fabric appliqué in a soft jersey material with pretty butterfly sleeves, the Anna SS Applique Tee (HK$109) comes in a variety of animals. I can’t resist a flamingo, it’s a favourite in our house, and the peacock t-shirt in hues of blue and green sequins or a sparkly orange unicorn will look fab with black leggings.

The Banksy boy
You could easily mistake Seed’s collection of stencil inspired, graffiti prints as the work of mysterious artist, Banksy. Famous for showing off his work in public places, your little Banksy boy can do just that as he roams the fairs in this selection of Boy Chimp Tee (HK$255), Animal Sweater (HK$320), Animal Trackie (HK$320) or Monkey Tee (HK$220).
Seed Heritage, 41 Queen’s Road Central Hong Kong
Taking inspiration from the masters such as Monet, these floral fancies caught my eye from Next Direct: the pink Shirt Waist dress (HK$190) and Multi Floral Prom Dress And Matching Knicker Set (HK$169).

Taking the Mickey
Andy Warhol used the world’s most famous mouse as a central character for a number of his artworks and now your budding artists can do the same for their own Warhol wardrobe.
Inspired by Minnie Mouse, UGG has just introduced its first Disney character collection inspired by Minnie’s classic red and black flapper polka dot – the Kid’s Sweetie Bow (HK$1,290). Little ladies can complete the look, polka dot included, with Pandora’s latest Disney collection of Mickey and Minnie mouse charms, starting at HK$399.
Boys can also get in on the act, with Marks & Spencer’s yellow Fun Mickey Gloves t-shirt (HK$159)
UGG, 15A Matheson Street, No. 2 Yiu Wa Street, Causeway Bay
Pandora, G/F & 1/F, Coda Commercial Building, 57 Queen’s Road Central
Marks & Spencer, G/F-1/F Central Tower, 22-28 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong.
Popular pop artist, Roy Lichtenstein, famed for his quirky use of comic strips, gives me my muse for my final edit…
Your little superhero can show his cool and collected side with the Batman™ Zip Through Mac with Stormwear™ from Marks and Spencer (HK$499), Cotton On Tee (HK$119) and Next Direct’s Drop Crotch Skinny Joggers (HK$116).
Whatever your little one is wearing, enjoy the show!
