Does your child have a way with a paintbrush? Jump online and let the talented kids over at Creative Schools Continuum (Creative Primary School’s Kindergarten, Creative Primary And Secondary School) inspire their imagination. Showcasing works from all year levels, it truly is amazing to see what the students from kindergarten right through to the secondary years have put together at the Creative Schools Continuum’s First Online Art Exhibition.

We hear more and more stories these days of children being up half the night with study sessions. While this may be great for their exam scores, it’s not going to adequately prepare them for the reality of our ever-changing digital world. Creative Schools Continuum helps its students embrace Hong Kong culture by following the local curriculum while also promoting a global perspective as they study the International Baccalaureate. Don’t let this unconventional approach fool you, Creative Schools Continuum’s students continue to achieve fantastic academic results and gain places to top universities both here and abroad.

So what does that look like in a practical sense? Let’s dive a little deeper into the creative arts curriculum to see exactly how the school provides a happy and highly supportive environment.

Art Education At Creative Primary School’s Kindergarten

It’s no secret that the early years of a child’s life are crucial for their lifelong learning and development. Creative Primary School’s Kindergarten (CPSKG)  like to think that an Arts education is like the “magic wand” that connects your child to the world of art at the same time as developing their positive attitude, creative thinking and self-confidence.

The littlest learners are given the tools to explore art, make their own masterpieces and also appreciate the creations of their peers. The arts are tied to curriculum themes that celebrate diverse cultures both in the classroom and the wider world.

Creative Primary School’s Art Curriculum — “Every child is an artist” Pablo Picasso

With the foundation of creativity laid in kindergarten, once children reach the primary years the focus is shifted to broadening their artistic horizons and embracing every child’s natural love of beauty. As they’re exposed to more and more of the art world, they get a feel for what is authentic, good and beautiful in life. In a digital world where AI and algorithms are increasingly dominant, it’s those innovative and imaginative human qualities that can’t be replicated.

At Creative Primary School, students start by learning art appreciation, gaining knowledge and imitating and experimenting in the early years before learning new ways to create, express feelings and appraise others’ work in the middle primary years. As they enter Primary 5 and 6, students apply their artistic skills, master techniques and begin to evaluate the art world.

Visual Arts Curriculum At Creative Secondary School

At Creative Secondary School, all the artistic pieces come together to see students producing exceptional, innovative works. Through the Visual Arts Curriculum, students explore, shape and communicate their sense of identity and individuality. They are encouraged to challenge their own expectations and experiment with their skills and media. It is during the high school years that the focus shifts from a teacher-led approach in the junior years to teachers acting as facilitators, guiding students on their creative journey in the senior years.
