Interior design studio Haven Design proves functional, beautiful rooms are within reach for family homes — no matter the square footage. It’s recent project shows how.
Mamas know the struggle of designing a home around kids. Their needs change constantly, their stuff multiplies overnight and that dream nursery you painstakingly curated becomes obsolete all too quickly. Deep breaths — this is where Haven Design comes in. This Wan Chai-based studio specialises in creating spaces that actually grow with families — think modern, beautiful interiors that still make sense when toddlers become teens. Here’s how it tackled a recent project for two sisters entering adolescence, transforming their shared bedroom and adjoining study into a space that both works for today and is ready for whatever comes next.

Thinking Ahead With Rooms That Evolve
If there’s one thing Haven Design has mastered, it’s future-proofing. Kids grow fast, and their needs change even faster. Instead of designing a room that feels perfect for today but outdated tomorrow, the team thinks ahead.
Take its recent project for a family with two daughters entering secondary school. The goal was to upgrade the girls’ shared bedroom and a separate multifunctional space that would serve as both a study and a guest room.
Keeping in mind new daily habits and responsibilities, Haven dedicated more space for the girls’ study, moving their desks to a long timber table by the window, overlooking the mountains. In doing so, it crafted a practical yet serene study space flooded with natural light — a far cry from cramped desks tucked away in a corner!
The study also doubles as a guest room. The original bed was swapped for a Murphy bed that folds away into the cabinetry, meaning the space can easily transition from homework hub to guest suite — or even extra play space — in seconds.

Using Colour To Shape Mood & Function
Haven Design knows a good home isn’t just about functionality. The studio intentionally uses colour to shape how a room feels. For instance, in the girls’ study, it brought in pops of lilac, mustard yellow and poppy red — colours that feel energetic and playful, which helps kids feel focused and creative during homework time.
The bedroom, on the other hand, is kept light and soothing. Beyond building a custom wardrobe in a soft, calming blue to handle the increasing clothing storage, it added a dreamy sky-themed wallpaper, creating a clear separation between work and rest.

A Design Process Based On Questions
The success of Haven’s recent project lies in its design philosophy. That is, the studio starts every project by asking the right questions: How will this space need to evolve over time? Will siblings continue sharing a room, or should the firm plan for future separation? By understanding the family’s needs now — and anticipating how they might change — Haven designs solutions that feel right for today but are flexible enough for tomorrow.
It’s this thoughtful, consultative approach that transforms a house into a home that actually works for the people living in it. Ready to rethink your own space? Book a consultation with Haven Design today!
