The dining event of the year, Restaurant Week, is kicking off this Friday, 17 February and running until Sunday, 26 February. I had the chance to preview Chez Ed, one of the many participating restaurants, to check out its set dinner menu.

As one of the pioneers of private kitchens in Hong Kong, Chef Eddy Leung opened Chez Ed over a year ago and has now built a steady following of loyal diners. With a reputation of using fresh ingredients and innovative ways of cooking, I was excited to dive into the 3-course meal.

hokkaido scallops

the foodI started off with the Seared Hokkaido Scallop, crispy bacon and 36 months Jamon Iberico which was served on top of a sea shell. The saltiness from the bacon and jamon went so well with the perfectly cooked scallop. The Seared Quail Breast Salad, seared foie gras with cider vinaigrette also looked like incredible as a starter. I definitely made a mental note to check it next time!

Next, I opted for the 12 Hours Braised Beef Wagyu Cheek, creamy mash potatoes and natural jus which was one of the best decisions I had made that day. The wagyu cheek literally fell apart as my fork went into it. The meat was extremely flavourful and gloriously tender after the 12 hour braise in red wine. Truly decadent!

If you’re looking for something different, you should definitely order the Signature 48°C Salmon Confit with ikura in beurre blanc sauce. The salmon confit is cooked at 48°C in goose fat creating a melt-in-your-mouth level filet.

Ending on a sweet note, I choose Chez Ed’s Dessert Platter. Served on a granite plate, there was a small pot of warm chocolate soup (essentially the “lava” in a lava cake minus the cake!), a custom made macron from Gerad Doubois, homemade matcha ice cream and a vanilla Hokkaido milk pudding with passion fruit coulis.

Sassy Mama Tip: If you’re going with the S.O. or a few friends, make sure to order different dishes so you can get a taste of everything. Each dish offered was unique and equally delicious.

the verdictChez Ed’s Restaurant Week menu really caught my eye (and stomach!) and I can’t wait to head back to sample his full tasting menu in the future. A perfect place for a date night or a catch up with friends, your tastebuds will thank you for the gastronomic feast.
