The Salvation Army is one of the most established organisations for recycling goods. Some of the collected items go to those in need, such as the elderly, street sleepers and ex-prisoners; the rest go to the Salvation Army’s retail chain, sold with a discount. They accept all re-wearables (but note they do not accept towels and underwear.) For bigger items such as TV sets, refrigerators and other appliances give them a call and they’ll arrange a pick-up.
