Fresh seafood, homemade pasta, farm-to-table cooking… and kiddos eat for free!
As a self proclaimed foodie – I love to eat good food and finding a place that serves quality ingredients that matches the taste buds of my little guy is not always the easiest to find. We’ve had to compromise a lot and by we, I mean, me. So I was ecstatic to find out that one of my fave restos in Hong Kong, Fish & Meat started a Kids Eat for Free (11 years and under) option during Monday to Wednesday lunches and weekend brunches.

I scheduled in a mama/son lunch date to spend some much needed quality time with my favourite little guy, Aiden. He happened to be on Easter holidays from school, so we had the chance to try out Fish & Meat’s lunch menu.
Once we arrived, all the servers made sure Aiden was greeted with high 5’s and hello’s all around. They asked him what his favourite movie characters were and then printed out a bunch of Toy Story and Star Wars colouring pages. His face lit up (as did mine!) as he coloured away and I got the chance to peruse the menu and the kiddo options.
I was impressed with the kid’s menu that read very much like the adult menu. We’re talking crispy whitebait fish with a lemon mayo dip for the starter and two versions of orecchiette pasta (aka elevated mac ‘n cheese!) and hanger steak frites for the mains. Desserts are always a must and your little ones can order a lemon tart or their daily ice cream flavour.
We ordered the crispy whitebait for Aiden and the adult version for me (the only difference was mine came with a charred lemon and spicy aioli). The small thin fish resembled French fries and had a lovely light batter that was both crunch and salty. Dipped in the lemony mayo and spicy aioli was the perfect starter to any meal. It’s great for sharing, but in our case, we didn’t share and had a portion each to ourselves! #notsharingbutstillcaring
For Aiden’s main, he had the orecchiette pasta with bacon cream and parmesan. You can bet he’s bid the regular mac ‘n cheese farewell after he tasted this amazingness! I may or may not have stolen a few cheeky bites when he wasn’t looking too. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the warm creamy bacon and parm sauce was the perfect accompaniment. It wasn’t too salty either so it was just right for little palettes.
I ordered the pan fried barramundi with pancetta, mussels in cider broth. The barramundi had a wonderful seared crunch on the outside while the meat was moist and cooked to perfection on the inside. The mussels paired nicely with the barramundi and the cider broth cut through the heaviness of the pancetta. The combination of all the ingredients worked really well together and I was left feeling completely satisfied.
Both Aiden and I were much too full for dessert, but we will definitely be booking ourselves in again to try the other options. I have to say, this was not only a delectable lunch where both of us could eat something we both enjoyed (and he ate for free – double plus!), but our mummy and son date was just as memorable. As we left he turned to me and asked for more of the “fishy fries”. Aiden, you can guarantee we’ll be back for more…!
