All our Discovery Bay mamas sure are lucky to have a brand new indoor play gym right at their footsteps! Introducing itself as the largest indoor play gym in all of Hong Kong, Discoveryland definitely doesn’t disappoint!

IMG_2274My husband, son and I along with four other families on this side of the island took the “trek” into DB on a recent sunny day to check out what DB mamas are tooting as an amazing space for the littles. Upon entering the facilities, we were greeted by friendly staff and instructed to place our shoes in the cubbies. It was a bit busy and in the midst of all the kids’ excitement, it felt somewhat chaotic as we tried to organise ourselves before entering the play space!

IMG_2957Once we were in, we were blown away by just how huge the space really was, encompassing a total of 14,000 square feet! It was definitely a stimulus overload, but in the best of ways. We followed our little one’s lead as he ran around in awe of all the activities! His first stop was the adorable mini putt station in the middle of the room. Golf clubs of different heights were offered at each of the holes. This was a fun activity to start off with, involving great teaching moments and some awesome pictures of dads teaching their little ones how to putt. The only thing I would’ve liked to see was the staff managing that area, as kids were running around with golf clubs and taking huge swings without really looking around to see if anyone was there! In any case, mamas and papas, make sure to yell out “fore!” before taking any big swings.

IMG_2972Next, we were headed to the back of the play area, where there was an area specifically marked out and sectioned off for children under 3 to play in. Lots of soft padded toys, play houses and other pretend play items were on hand to encourage creative play. What we loved about this area was the cafe seating area just next to it, allowing parents and caregivers to relax and have a snack while keeping an eye on their kids.

Right next to that area was an amazing jungle gym that led you up into the playground and down some ridiculously steep slides, sure to make every child and adult squeal in delight! The jungle gym is perfect for kids who are learning to exercise their motor skills and it’s also a great way to burn off some energy!

IMG_2947Among all the other activities, the large trampolines had to be our little one’s favourite. This activity is carefully managed and only two children with accompanying adults are allowed on the trampolines at one time. Each turn lasts around 10 minutes, which gives other kids in line a chance to have fun too. The entire area is sectioned off and again, minded by friendly staff. I have to say, that after sampling many play gyms around the ‘Kong with my little one, Discoveryland definitely has the most attentive staff! A huge congrats to them for seeing the importance in that!

IMG_2933What I really loved about Discoveryland is that they cater to kids of all ages and not simply the little ones. There’s an amazing “Air Trek” tight rope course, several levelled rock climbing walls and interactive electronic games to boot! Also, if your older child wants to host a laser party for his/her birthday, that is something that can be arranged as well. All events are also supervised by friendly and knowledgable staff.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this play gym to all the families out there! Even if you don’t live in Discovery Bay, it’s worth the trek, as there is fun to be had for everyone in the family. There’s also a handful of family-friendly restaurant options along the Discovery Bay North Plaza. If you haven’t visited yet, I would encourage you to check it out at some point. You won’t be disappointed and I can bet your child will be asking to return again in no time!

IMG_3002Some important information to note:

  • The best time to go is typically during the weekdays in the morning. If you decide to go on the weekend (like most families), aim to be there at opening to avoid the crowds.
  • Bring drinks and snacks to keep your kids and yourself fuelled for all the fun you’ll have!
  • Special monthly and annual passes are available. Check out their website for more info.
  • Planning on celebrating a birthday at Discoveryland? There are birthday packages available too on the website.
