With its private rooms and hair salon/spa all in one, Capelli Salon and Spa (from one of our favourite spa spots Sense of Touch!) might be one of the most luxurious places to get your hair done in Hong Kong, and with its new opening in Central, it’s more convenient than ever to get the VIP treatment without having to trek over to Repulse Bay if you’re living this side of the island. The award-winning salon is a one-stop destination for hair, beauty and skincare pampering treatments, which let’s face it, every mama deserves once in awhile!
The prices aren’t the cheapest in Hong Kong, but when it comes to your hair, I always think it’s worth a little extra splurge. With my highlights grown out about three inches for a not-so-attractive two-tone look, I was ready to get a full-on makeover from one of the experienced stylists at Capelli.
Danny has been working as a hair stylist since 2006, training in the UK and working in major salons in the UK and Hong Kong. He’s an expert at pretty much the full range of hair treatments, whether you’re looking for a cut, colour, highlights, styling or a Brazilian blowout. I’ve had my fair share of scarring salon experiences when it comes to taming my unruly mane, but after a few hours with Danny going from bushy Hermione-hair to sleek new do, I can 100% recommend a trip to Capelli if you’re looking for a new look.
To begin my treatment, I was ushered into one of Capelli’s VIP rooms (there are four in total), which is a great option if you can’t stand the busy, hectic atmosphere in most hair salons and want to multi-task as well (they offer free wifi). I hate having to sit at the salon for 3 or 4 hours with just some old magazines to flip through, so it was great to be able to get some work done at the same time.
After assessing the (horrendous) state of my hair, Danny suggested colouring my strands one shade darker and putting in some low lights to still get that pop of colour while smoothing out the two tones. I was a bit worried that dying my hair would result in further damage and dryness, but he assured me the treatment wouldn’t be damaging in the least. Along with he assistant, Danny worked quickly and deftly, and I had my new darker shade within the hour!
After the colouring process, he applied a conditioning treatment, which took another 45 minutes. He then finished with the haircut, snipping off my dry ends and adding medium layers to the front and back. The finished look? A sleek, stylish do in a darker, coffee-brown colour with some low lights to add a bit of interest:
In 20+ years of visiting salons, I have never left with my hair feeling so soft and silky. I don’t know if it was the conditioning treatment or just the high-quality of products used, but I was truly impressed by how soft my hair felt, with that “fresh from the salon” look lasting several days afterwards. Danny really did a great job re-hydrating my fried frizz, and I’m already planning a quarterly visit to maintain that healthy glow.
If you have the time (Mother’s Day, perhaps?), Capelli is the perfect place to spend the whole day getting a makeover and spa treatment, as they also offer make-up services and a number of “hair spa” services designed to leave your scalp feeling rested and relaxed. The spa services are designed to cleanse, oxygenate and strengthen your strands, and they offer a number of options for repairing dry and damaged, or thinning hair.
Whichever option you choose, rest assured you’ll leave Capelli with that soft and glossy look usually reserved for magazine models – it’s about time you treated yourself to beautiful hair, mama!
