How To Read The IB Results

A high IB score is obviously something to be celebrated, but make sure you look at the context. A high average is impressive, but it means more when viewed alongside the size of the cohort, the pass rate, the percentage of students scoring 40 or above and whether all students were entered for the full IB Diploma.

A small group of academic students might help a school achieve a high average score. Equally, a large year group is more likely to reflect a wider variety of learners.

When Are The IB Results Released In Hong Kong?

Hong Kong students can access their scores from the IB candidate website from 8pm on Monday, 6 July, 2026. Schools will usually begin announcing their overall results and top student achievements around the same time.

What Do The IB Results Actually Mean?

How Is The IB Diploma Scored?

Each IB course is graded from 1 to 7. Students can then earn up to 3 additional points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. A score of 45 is the highest possible IB Diploma score. It is rare and represents top marks across the full programme, including the additional core points.

No — not automatically. The school with the highest average IB score may be an excellent academic school, but that does not mean it is the best fit for every child.
