Hong Kong is home to some of the best international schools in the world (check out our round up of international schools in Hong Kong here) with a wide variety of curriculums, languages and education systems to choose from. It can be challenging to know which school is the best fit for your family and how to choose. If you’re a British expat (though this applies to a wider audience as well), you’ve likely looked into schools offering the British curriculum for your kids, especially if you’ve not been sure about calling Hong Kong your permanent home.

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong

Wycombe Abbey is a quintessentially British prep school in Hong Kong (Year 1 through to Year 8) complemented by an exceptional Chinese language syllabus. It provides a broad holistic education based on the British National Curriculum of England and Wales, which includes 14 Primary Subjects – with specialised classrooms, facilities and teachers for Physical Education, Speech and Drama, Music, Art, Science, and iSTEAM. Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong (NAIS)

The Nord Anglia International School has 66 schools based in 29 different countries around the globe with four of these locations here in Hong Kong. Offering the British National Curriculum as well as the IGCSE and IB Diploma, Nord Anglia has a nurturing and multinational learning environment for kids (3 to 18 years). It also collaborates with The Juilliard School, MIT and UNICEF to offer unique and innovative extra-curricular activities. The Lam Tin campus serves primary students, secondary students have recently moved to the brand new Kwun Tong campus, and the early years’ campus is in Sai Kung and Tai Tam.

Harrow International School

Harrow International School opened in Hong Kong in 2012 and quickly became a popular and established British school. Harrow is both a day school and an international boarding school, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. Boarding at this British school begins in Year 6 but day school is offered from the age of 3 to 18 years of age. Harrow’s education is based on the same characterises as Harrow in the UK while it attempts to create a balance between Western and Eastern traditions here in Hong Kong.

Kellett School

Established in 1976, the Kellett School was built by parent founders who wanted an English school that was also rich in arts and sports. Today, Kellett has over 1,300 students aged from 4 to 18 years. The school has kept with the parent founding tradition in that every family with a child enrolled in the school becomes a member of the Kellett School Association, meaning that each member can contribute to its development. This parented-owned and non-profit school has two campuses in Hong Kong where children will receive a quality British education that is both challenging and stimulating.

Lantau International School (LIS)

Established in 1995, the Lantau International School is an English school (for 4 to 11-year-old children) based on Lantau island. With easy access by public transport and a gorgeous and lush location, this international British school touts itself as the “greenest school in Hong Kong” offering learning activities that embrace the wonderful outdoors. Following the English National Curriculum, its programmes are also combined with extensive Mandarin classes. With a mix of classroom and outdoor learning at the highest academic standards, class sizes are kept small (not exceeding more than 24 students per class). After school and summer club activities are also available.

Anfield School

Anfield School is a Roman Catholic school that offers the British National Curriculum for kindergarten to primary aged kids for those of all faiths and backgrounds. Established in 1999, Anfield has three locations in Hong Kong for its different age groups. Its Early Years programme offers specialist teaching in Mandarin, physical education and music. The school values pride itself on Christian teachings to create a loving environment and community for all kids to learn and grow in. It caters to children from 2 to 11 years.

Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong

Shrewsbury International School was founded in the UK by the Royal Charter in 1552 (that’s 450 years of experience!) and its Hong Kong location opened in 2018. Discovery Bay International School (DBIS)

This is another international school with a British curriculum that’s based in the picturesque Lantau Island. Discovery Bay International School offers the English National Curriculum for reception, kindergarten, primary, and secondary students. DBIS believes that learning should be an enjoyable experience as well as purposeful while also meeting the highest academic standards. It also promotes inclusivity and a sense of internationalism, while also encouraging kids to develop a sense of self-identity. DBIS also offers programmes for special needs students, occupational and speech therapy, as well as English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.

Discovery Mind

Discovery Mind was founded in 1996 and offers British education focused programmes for children as young as 15 months through to primary. It has centres located on Discovery Bay and Tung Chung. The school wants to offer its students something progressive, multi-dimensional and multinational while basing its curriculum on the English standard. It also uses the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for some subjects, such as Geography, History and Art to give children the chance to be creative and develop critical, problem-solving skills. It also has an additional language focus with Mandarin.

Oxbridge School, British Education Hong Kong

Oxbridge British School

Oxbridge School provides students a modern campus and specialises in the National Curriculum of England and Wales. It also supports students with English as a Second Language so that they can access its British curriculum. You’ll find small class sizes, great sports facilities, specialist teaching rooms, and a dedicated Gifted and Special Needs centre. Offering an “intelligently British education”, the British National Curriculum Classes are taught in Year 1 through to Year 6.

Invictus School

Invictus opened its doors in 2019. Invictus’ kindergarten and primary campus in Tseung Kwun O are both bilingual schools that offer the IEYC and IPC curriculum. Its secondary school campus in Chai Wan offers the English curriculum with Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE, A-Levels.

English Schools Foundation (ESF)

While not solely focused on the British National Curriculum of England and Wales, ESF Hong Kong offer secondary school students the opportunity of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and GCSE qualifications recognised in the UK. Students also have the option to study the IB programme. You can start your youngsters off young here with the ESF Kindergarten.

Mount Kelly (this school has now closed)

This all-through British school (nursery, preschool, Primary and Secondary) has over 140 years of education experience from its UK counterpart. The British curriculum has been tailored to a Hong Kong setting and the needs of students here, so the school has enhanced its Maths curriculum to ensure the children are meeting the English National Curriculum objectives and local expectations.
